I wouldn't let him anywhere near fenways right field. What's he been hitting this year? I know la cut him for a reason.
They cut him because they have Kendrys Morales and Trumbo who are younger and Vernon Wells and Tori Hunter who are more expensive. And they have another slick fielding CFer. He got caught in a numbers game with the roster. Speaking of #'s games, I think his #'sw at Fenway are pretty good.

Melancon has always dominated the minors.

It's something to build on. He could be getting lit up down there and give us nothing to possibly look forward to.

Alright, I suppose you've convinced me. If he comes extremely cheap.

Shut up gammons.

Just for the record, the Sox have scored an average of 8.3 runs in their wins to date this year and have averaged 4.09 runs per game in their losses.

Some teams can live with 4 or 5 runs per game. The Sox really can't and are not designed to.

Teams beating the Sox have averaged 7.8 runs per game in their wins and that includes the 18 run onslaught by the Rangers.

So you drop Darnell if you get Abreu, then?

I'm not sure I'm good with that. Darnell at least mashes LHP.

Plus, Abreu has OPS'd .500 at Fenway in 2011 and .675 in 2010. I am not for this move.

...or we can stick it out with DMac and show him some commitment.;)

DMac vs. Abreu in a wheelchair and I take Abreu.

The logjam would be my one concern and if really has been that bad then we might want to hold off. One hand I like the idea of a proven hitter and Obp guy but he's old, fading, not a defender anymore, and another guy to pay. I'm leaning more towards the hold off camp.

So you sign Abreu, DFA Darnell.

Then what? Once Crawford and Ellsbury come back, you going to just have Cody Ross and Marlon Byrd as your RHH OF? Darnell has power v LHP at least.

I just see no reason to go get him.

So you're going to go up against guys like Sabathia, Price, Moore, Romero, etc with Ross and Byrd??

I just think we have enough LHH OF, especially since Kalish is going to be coming back. That's 4 options between Sweeney, Ells, Craw, and Kalish.

DMac can at least hit lefties some though.
Abreu is an .877 lifetime OPS. DMac's advantage against lefties is inconsequential when he has him by 160 OPS points.

When is Kalish coming back? The idea is to fill in the gap until Ellsbury and Crawford come back. Kalish will not be back before Ellsbury or Crawford.

DMac is a piece of trash. A couple of games ago people were wondering if he had incriminating pictures of John Henry. By all means let's stick with a LF platoon of DMac and Lars over Abreu.

That's like 1.5 months. There's no need to go get bandaid after bandaid after bandaid.

The Sox are playing very good baseball right now. If they need anything, it's a bullpen arm. They don't need another OF.

People are blind when it comes to dmac. He sucks lets face it.

This ump is just screwing us sideways.
We are getting beat by a s*** team that got a really good pitching performance tonight. Ortiz can't carry the rest of them on his back every night.
