Even if the guy is free' date=' i.e. league minimum?[/quote']

It depends. Abreu had .366 OBP against righties last year, so he's definitely of some value. The question is-- is he done?

Career OPS vs RHP: Ross .730' date=' Byrd .742, Abreu .926. That's why.[/quote']

Oh come on. That's an absolutely ridiculous argument to use career OPS.

That's like me saying Pedro Martinez has a career 2.93 ERA so he would be a better SP right now than Jon Lester because Lester has a career 3.57 ERA.

Abreu is completely over the hill and is on the downturn of his career.

He had a .766 OPS vs RHP last year. He's not a .926 OPS vs RHP player anymore. He's old.

Atta boy Mike...beat this dick ump like a drum...geez it is no longer us against the A's. They should all meet at home plate after this game and beat the s*** outta' this guy. The whole crew sucks.

-That KC Reject is on pace for 36 HR and over 100 RBI.

-D-Mac is an AAAA player who crushes guys like David Price and helps this team win games vs LHP.

-Sweeney has always been a high average, high OBP guy. He's not a power hitter. He's slid into the 2 slot very nicely. And he's got a .943 OPS right now

-Punto shouldn't be playing at all. But we also have Will Middlebrooks just waiting for the call when Youk goes down.

-Salty is a HR or nothing C, but again, we have reserves in AAA (Lavarnway) who can come up at any time. Either way, Salty's .801 OPS right now would rank 9th in the MLB among qualified catchers. Offensively, he's a league average catcher.

- Cody Ross has a .876 OPS right now. You can't complain about this guy.

There have been quite a few players step up right now. I don't know why you're so worried about this offense. They have scored the most runs in the MLB going into tonight's game, and that's with Gonzo OPS'ing .737.

You are ignoring who these guys are. You are taking a small sample size of less than a couple of dozen games and ignoring what kind of players they are.

This is what I saw when was in Fenway to watch the Yankees. The Yankees were a team stocked full of studs all over the diamond and in the bullpen and I looked to our side and I saw a makeshift bunch of rag taggers. We have three star players surrounded by posers. That's reality, and it is the same reality when we play Texas and Detroit. We don't compare. I am rooting my ass off hoping this team can stay in the fray until our guys come back from injury, but when we turn our backs on guys that are really good hitters who are free like Abreu in favor of garbage like DMac, I have to say WTF.

Sweeney should be up in the count 2-0. Why swing at the first pitch when you could end the game with a dribbler some place why?????

Was that lars I got back to the TV to late
