Does anyone follow tennis in the States?

Looking like a good battle for both the Men's and Women's draws this year. Can't really pick a winner. Probably Djokovic & Kvitova ...

I'm not much of a tennis fan, but it's times like this (footy season over, no cricket on at the moment and crappy broadcasting of US sports) that I will watch it, just to get my sports fix. What happened with the Hewitt/Roddick matchup tonight? I only saw the first game before I had to get started on some homework.

I guess as an Aussie, I should be happy. However, I honestly can't stand Hewitt, and Roddick is my favorite player, so it kind of sucks for me. Either way though, I don't really care that much about tennis.

I usually follow it pretty closely, but I'm usually at work when most of the matches are on, so its hard to catch most of it. Its a shame that they don't re-air most of the matches on primetime.

I like watching tennis. Don't really have a favorite on the women's side but I'm a big fan of Nadal's. I'm afraid his style of play will end his career prematurely due to injuries etc.

To be honest, when it comes to Federer, he really annoys me. I don't know why, but he just bugs me. He also comes across as pretty arrogant when he speaks as well, although other people have said that he comes across very modestly, so maybe I'm crazy or something.

I think you are

Nadal is fraud , he comes into tournaments wearing bandage on his knee, faking injuries .

Not to mention the fake injury time outs he takes during matches when he's down in the match .

Nole is the one that's arrogant , thinks he's king s*** .

Federer never resorts to fake injuries or blame injuries .

I remember a few years ago he was playing with mono and he never used it as an excuse and no one knew about it until 6 months afterwards.

Yeah, a lot of people seem to really like him, so I guess I must be crazy

As I said in my first post, I'm a big fan of Andy Roddick. He just seems like a really cool and chilled-out guy, and he's a big guy like myself. I love his power game as well, especially his serve.

He doesn't fake injuries, why would he do that? The way he plays causes the injuries.

I wouldn't like a player that was a faker or a fraud. I think you are off base when it comes to Nadal.

I'm sorry but when you take injury time outs during matches and soon after you're dominating the match , you're cheating . Bassicaly took a injury time out to refresh .

Nadal does this far too often.

This Australian Open is another example.

He says he almost had to withdraw from it the night before as he had knee problems the night before . Then he comes out on court with a bandage on his knee and he's flying over the court with no issues with the knee. He's setting himself up

Have you ever seen his temper trantum with the chair umpire ?

he's definately not cool and chilled out lol

Nadal's injury problems have been well documented throughout his career. The way he runs and swings put a lot of pressure on his ankles/knees/wrists/elbows.

Also, the "refreshing himself" thing makes no sense, because your opponent would get "refreshed" too. Why give an opponent you're dominating a second wind?

You're opponant is allready refreshed . If it does anything it f***s the rythym he was on as he's not so loose anymore.

Oh and not to mention the illegal coaching he's been fined for before at winbledon

I haven't watched tennis once all the larger than life personalities retired. In recent years, only the Williams sisters have brought any sort of personality to the sport.

Crap. I'm not much of a tennis fan' date=' but it would have been nice to see an Aussie advance to the next round.[/quote']

Hewitt made it to the next round. He'll play Djokovic.

That sucks. So are there any Aussies' date=' male or female, left in the tournament?[/quote']

Unfortunately, no. Hewitt was the last.

I'll probably keep a bit of an eye on the tennis for the rest of the tournament, but it is always a little less interesting when all of the Aussies are out. Hewitt is well and truly on the downside of his career, but I think Tomic and that other young Aussie, Duck-something, both have a lot of potential. Stosur (if that is how you spell it) should be good for a while yet, and one of the top women with a weird last name (Ivanovic or something I think?) is dating an Aussie, so hopefully they'll get married and we can claim her as an Aussie!

Great win last night (Aussie time) by Novak Smackabitch. I'm actually looking forward to the Mens Final on sunday. I'm also looking forward to seeing Sharapova tonight. As far as I'm concerned, when she is playing, there is no one else on the court but her. She is one seriously hot young woman.
