Now that I have a clear mind, for now, let me sum this up. Pineda is a 22 yr old, humongous framed pitched with plus command of a power fastball, a knockout curve and an above average change. He had a stellar rookie season but seemed to tire out at seasons end. He threw 170IP last yr and should be on pace for 200. If he continues to show improvement, then he could supplant CC as Yankees ace over time. It remains to be seen how he'll adjust to the AL East and the pressures of NY. There is nothing saying he'll be immune or succumb to them. He's a he'll of a talent and as a Yankee fan, I look forward to seeing how this plays out in the spring. Alright, email and the net checked for the day, time for the pool bar!

Yup, totally going to supplant CC as staff ace. You called it.

There is nothing like a "gotcha" debate with two year old posts being brought up. Riveting. It's like the message board version of a dirty tricks political campaign.

The point I was simply making (which clearly flew well over the heads of you three numbskulls) was that you have a propensity towards rose colored glasses for the Yanks, but continue to denigrate Sox fans who do the same. It's fine though. It's your gimmick. Fantastic. I prefer to be an actual realist, not push some agenda.

The whole discussion seems to put another light on Xander Bogaerts however.

Montero was a top prospect who lit up the majors in his first year, and fell to ashes the following year. Pineda, same exact thing. Probably a lesson for myself and others who overestimate the value of some of these rookies (and yet another reason to re-sign Stephen Drew).

Yeah, because Pineda had blown out his shoulder when he made this thread. Definitely saw that one coming.

Spring Training is under way. We have a championship banner that will be raised on Opening Day. Optimism is understandable.

Barring some unforeseen circumstances like getting sick or hit by a car, I will be in Boston for that opening home series. The bill came for the trip and it has been paid and my air fare bill will soon arrive. I have also salted away my spending money for that trip so I am all set. You owe me a call my friend because I never seem to able to get hold of you.

I will try to give you a ring next week.

I've said this before, but I had an opportunity to go to the Opening Series. However, Friday is a schoolday, and I will either be trying out for the school baseball team that weekend, or playing AAU basketball. Oh, how I wish I could be grown sometimes. I plan on becoming either a pilot or sports journalist, so either way I'll have a free ride to games like this in the future. I'll be back in Boston in mid-April when the Sox are in Toronto for a college visit to Northeastern (not for me). You guys have all the luck.

Branch Rickey, one of the greatest owner-general managers in baseball history, once said that luck was the residue of design. For my luck the residue is that I am now in my 70's, retired with most of my life behind me. You, OTOH, have it all in front of you. So I have earned my luck by my age and the Red Sox are my passion in life aside from my wife, daughter and grandkids. You will be able to take all those trips yourself soon enough and probably years before I first took mine which was in 2000---which is when I became a Red Sox fan. You will have plenty of time to do all the things you want.

That is one of my favorite Branch Rickey sayings. If O'Malley hadn't pushed Rickey out of Brooklyn, the Dodgers would still be there, and so would I.

Of all the arguments on this trade I bet very few would have guessed it would be a complete an absolute bust on both sides. Montero showed up to camp 40 pounds over the team expected weight. 40 f***ing pounds :o, that's absolutely insane. Pineda blew his arm out so there is nothing really good there.

BTW where is Pineda in his rehab? I know he through like 40 IP in the minors last year. Is he in the minors all season to build up his innings or do they expect him to possibly make the rotation out of camp?

They are saying he is in the mix for 5th starter. He is throwing full bore and apparently has his velo back. That being said, we hear these stories every spring and then the spring games come on and it's all spin and ********. I reserve judgement until I start seeing Pineda hitting mid 90s again

I might still be a Dodger fan too---who knows? Rickey was a genius and his judgment of black players was outstanding. When he was in charge we got Robinson, Campanella, Newcombe and later Joe Black. When that fat ass O'Malley took over we got the re-runs like Gilliam, Charlie Neal and other duds while the Willie Mayses, Frank Robinsons, Henry Aarons and Ernie Bankses ent elsewhere. Then the bastard yanked the team out of Brooklyn. I will never forgive that dickweed for doing that. Fortunately I know have the Red Sox and they will always be in Boston.

BTW, unlike most Red Sox fans I don't have a NL team I follow with any fervor or enthusiasm at all, but since my wife and I take a summer vacation down in San Diego we kind of wanted to see that team shake the cobwebs and become successful------until the O'Malley Family bought that team. Now they can drop dead. Maybe I'll adopt the Cubs as my distantly second team.
