The Sun-Sentinel is reporting that a new manager will be named Tuesday.

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/chi-red-sox-to-name-new-manager-20111128,0,6016724.story

Valentine is returning from Japan on Wed, not Tues. Their timing is Thurs or Fri, consistent with Valentine being here. That tells me it's Valentine.

I heard Gammons this morning on MLB cable. Says they are now inclined to making Bard a starter. If so, they better hurry up and get a closer. They missed out on Broxton today.

If Boston had matched up Philli's Pap offer' date=' Where would Pap have gone to? Where would you have gone to?[/quote']

Boston wasn't going to match Philly. Even if they did, why would Paps have signed with Boston? No pitching coach, no manager, a front office in total disarray and a starting rotation accused of being out of shape and quitting on their teammates down the stretch, not exactly the ideal scenario for a closer wishing to replace Mariano Rivera as one of the all time greats. Not mention, the Phillies have the best starting rotation in baseball which means Paps is likely to get al ot of save opportunities without having to face the ALE big bats. What's not to like!

Bingo.

Papelbon said that he didn't want to go into a match-up-offer war. Philadelphia made him an attractive offer first. If Boston had made a formal offer first and not just wait to match it up, another scenario would have been. You bet.

He is arguably the best closer in the league these days maybe just below Mo. He is an ace in the position. He won't be easy to replace IMO.

A match up war has a whole different complexion than a one-upsmanship war. I agree that Paps would not have been responsive to Boston in a match up war and he said as much. However he gladly would have sat back and watched two teams one up each other for his services. The Sox were not going to do either. They were not going to match and they were not going to attempt to exceed the Phils.

You arent serious are you?

Yup. I wouldn't put it past them to pick Lamont. He is a perfect go-fer if they wish to stay in the same pattern they have been in during the Epstein-Francona regime.

You must have inside information since no one else here KNOWS who it will be..go ahead. Place your guess.

What's gonna piss me off will be the insipid manner in which they'll conduct the thing when the do get around to it. The most fitting thing the press could do at this point is not show up at their presser. Let them air their smugness out to empty rows of chairs.

I'd love to see you try to use a factual argument to back that one up:lol:

Keep waiting.

Also: "Look, a manager!" "What will they whine about next?"

Who is better than him? IYO

Your sig make up his numbers in the wrong way. He just had a good year. The trend you are talking about in you sig. is not adequate.
