Unfortunately, pitchers have to overcome widespread belief that pitchers should not be considered and that everyday players should always win most valuable player.

Weaver: 2.41 ERA, 7.56 K/9, 1.01 WHIP, 235 IP, 3.20 FIP

Sabathia: 3.00 ERA, 8.72 K/9, 1.22 WHIP (.318 BABIP), 237 IP, 2.88 FIP

 

If SP is worthy of MVP, there is absolutely no way that Verlander should be MVP, yet Sabathia and Weaver are not even in the top 5. The numbers (outside of Wins, which writers constantly kill the value of wins) are extremely similar.

 

There's no way that Ellsbury shouldn't have won either. He got crushed for the Sox collapse in September, even though he hit .358/.400/.667/1.067 during the month. Just an absolutely horseshit award this year.

If they had the stats to back it up I don't see why not, a couple years ago a DH was the World Series MVP.

At first I was upset- thinking Ells was clearly the MVP. But then I was thinking how can you ultimately determine the value of a player? If the market is an indication I thought about a trade. If a straight up trade of Ells. for Vlander was on the table who would want it. I would think Boston would jump at it and Detroit would not consider it- and if I'm correct then the award we t to the right person.

Actually, the first and second votes ended up with Verlander and Ellsbury both with 157 points. It seems as though the bottom votes hurt more. And as you stated in your other post, the voter who cast a ballot with Ellsbury in the 10th spot was trying to unfairly sway the outcome in the favor of someone else. That voter should be held accountable.

You know i still don't agree with a pitcher who starts around 34 games a season getting an MVP award

over a everyday player that plays on average 154 games a season. I mean Verlander won the cy young

shouldn't that be the pinnacle of a pitchers MVP?.
