From all the baseball announcers I heard over the years I believe Vin Scully is not only the best today but is the greatest of all time. However, we are talking about our favorite and to me that goes back to my young days in Queens. Red Barber is my all time favorite; he was the Brooklyn Dodgers No. 1 announcer until he left the team after the 1953 season. I cut my teeth as a kid listening to that man on the radio in the late 40's and early 50's when I switched to TV. Perhaps it's because of my animus towards the Dodgers today; never forgave them when they left Brooklyn, but I cannot identify with Scully except to reluctantly admit he is the best.

Perhaps it's also a prejudice as well in that I enjoy listening to Don Orsillo and Jerry Remy on my computer during Red Sox home games on MLB. I find them entertaining and am amazed how well they work together.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I just have to say that Ken Harrelson of the White Sox is the best out there. Find one of the White Sox highlights and be astounded.

Well as long as you bumped it, The sound of Joe Costiglione's voice always signifies summer evening baseball for me. And Ueker is a riot. Especially when he starts having conversations with himself.

You might hate me for this, but I must say that I like Michael Kay and John Sterling of the Yankees. They have trademarked a few words.

Liking Hawk is a worse offense imo...

Hawk Harrelson, Michael Kay, and John Sterling? Do you also enjoy rinsing your ears out with sulfuric acid, or do you just pour flesh-eating bacteria straight in there and let them go to town while you listen to Suzyn Waldman get her shrew on?

I hate Waldman.:thumbdown

Ban him. f***ing Hawk Harrelson is awful. I still remember his weak-ass, monotone, depressed-sounding "this ballgame is over" when Thome hit Target Field's first walk-off homer. It was the best he's ever sounded.

Why do all of you guys hate him?

He's obnoxious, douchey and an enormous homer. I don't know if anyone of you has heard Paul Allen during Vikings games, but he's like that, except calling games for a team I hate.

"Put it on the booooooard, uh-yes!"

"He gone!"

"Stretch!"

"Get foul!"

I don't mind guys being obvious fans of the teams they announce for, but he takes it to a whole new level. His voice is incredibly annoying.

Remember his meltdown a couple weeks ago? I'm shocked that he hasn't lost it yet and started berating another team during broadcasts.

That meltdown was in May or June.

I like Hawk. Yes, he is an annoying homer when the Red Sox play the White Sox, but he is a colorful character. He's not boring like so many other announcers.

The best announcer and my favorite is Vin Scully. I think Remy is one of the best color men/analysts in the game. None of his replacements while he was out could hold a candle to him.

Bob Murphy was one of my favorites. What a great announcer.

Sterling is "colorful" and unboring if Hawk is. I am disappointed.
I don't mind listening to Sterling when the Yankees are losing. He's actually quite comical when they are losing as he searches for the lamest excuses possible. There's a huge difference between Sterling and Hawk. Sterling is a radio announcer who rambles on about everything except the game, and he apparently has poor vision because his attempts at calling the game are not even a close approximation of what is going on on the field. Hawk is on TV and still does a better job of calling the game. Plus, Hawk has some good player stories. There's no comparison between the two. This is just my opinion. I would not give him any awards for announcing, but I find no reason to loathe him. Yeah he is a homer, but so what. They are all homers.

I really like Eck's commentary. He's not a good main broadcaster, but as a color guy he's pretty good.

And to keep the homer-ism going, Joe Castiglione is a very good play by play guy. He mixes providing the facts, uniqueness of voice, and just enough invested-in-the-outcome-ness to make him a very good hometown guy.

I liked Bobby V on ESPN prior to coming to the Sox...

^Just kidding he was one of the worst voices ever

Vin Scully, Dave Niehaus and Dave Sims!

BRING OUT THE RYE BREAD AND MUSTARD GRANDMA ITS A GRAND SALAMI! (RIP DAVE)
