BALTIMORE — Jason Varitek was just scratched and replaced by Jarrod Saltalamacchia.

 

Varitek has a bruised right knee, the result of being hit by a pitch yesterday.

 

Varitek has caught all but one of Josh Beckett's 29 starts this season. That was his first start of the season, on April 5 in Cleveland.

 

With Saltalamacchia catching, Beckett allowed three runs in five innings that day with four walks, his season high.
