Damn. I knew Scut was hot. But he's hitting .436 in September. Ridiculous.

When I get home tonight, I think its time to create a Scutaro Appreciation Thread. Seriously, 350 OBP? He'll be back next year for sure.

I was watching the game/posting here during Bio class. I sat in the back row so as not to distract anyone/get caught, but this middle-aged woman sat behind the back row. Thought nothing of it. Turns out she's more important than I thought. Lab coordinator or something?

Ahhh...no worries.

I cannot believe how incredibly inefficient our SP has been lately. It's one thing to get bombed and go 5 IP, but even in games where our SP has only allowed 2-4 runs, they're still only going 5 IP. Just completely taxing the bullpen.

I feel that this issue has been going on all year.

Just look at the decline of Albers and Bard. They've just been over worked.

When your #1 and 2 struggle to complete the 7th, it's not a good sign for long term staff performance.

I guess? Lackey supporters will say he pitched well. I just think SP's need to get a little further in the game. We shouldn't have to use a middle reliever every game.

Reporting for duty, sir.

Most of the Lackey supporters don't say things like that. We're more likely to defend him if he keeps the Sox in the game (like this game, for example). Everyone in their right mind knows he's had a terrible season, and having a WHIP of 2.00 during a game is terrible.

I'd just like more than "keep the Sox in the game." How about a week where they don't burn through the bullpen? I think some people don't realize the ancillary damage of having a rotation that can't go deep into a game.

Gotta agree. I'm not super old school in that I expect our SP to go 8-9 IP every outing, but our starters need to consistently go 6-7, and that's just not happening.

Having said that, Lackey's outing was relatively great, as odd as that sounds. As bad as he's pitched as of late, I'll take 5.1, 2 ER from him all day.

And what don't Lackey supporters say that "he pitched well?" So keeping it close isn't pitching well? I'm kind of confused by the argument I guess.

I just hope that next season he can find some consistency and pitch like what we've seen for most of the 2nd half for a whole season. Despite the 4th of July start and this recent 3 start slide in early September, I think we can all agree he's been pretty decent the second half. Has he performed like the kind of guy who gets 16 million a year? No, not by a long shot. But has he done his job as a solid back of the rotation starter? I think it's very reasonable to make that argument.

Oh, and A-God is awesome.

I agree, by all means. But, what can be done at this point?

He's allowed an average of 10 walks/hits per start since the break. I think it was more of a function of luck than anything else. If you look at the game logs and ignore wins/losses, it's pretty ugly.
