Tonight is the best reason for the above. I dont get how you can just take away the pitch at the knees when that is the pitch that is consistently a strike for everyone else.

CC needs to be at 5 innings max. This ump has f***ed him out of this game early

 

He's giving 5" outside and taking away the inside corner. Those pitches to Ellsbury weren't even close, but he won't call anything on the paint on the inside.

CC is really struggling vs Boston's righties. He probably should try to get on them, instead of just peppering the outer third. It's interesting that what has kept CC in the game is that Ellsbury/AdGon/Ortiz are a combined 0-7 tonight with 6 Ks.

Hopefully it's like that May game. Get's beat in all game, and finally adjusts to make sure he gets the last word. That was still a good inning. Now we need Lackey to settle down and get us through at least two more and get Fatty outta the game.

Yeah it was a good inning but when you've got your top RBI guy in there with 2 outs and men on 2nd and 3rd, down by 1, you can't strike out. If I'm CC, I don't throw anything but a slider in the dirt every pitch to Gonzo. If I walk him, fine. But I'll probably strike him out.

That's not entirely on point. Yes, he's getting helped off the outer edge, but only against lefties. He's not getting the same treatment vs RHHs, which is fine. It's just the knees that has hurt him tonight, but despite having an odd zone, Rapuano has actually be relatively consistent.
