Don't do that. Groupthink sucks.

If you have a guy who has started at SS, give him a chance to fail at SS before moving them. They even did that for Pedey, and they outright KNEW he was a 2B going forward.

Besides, we have a highly talented young 3B, excellent players at second and first, and more outfielders than we know what to do with. Shortstop is Bogaerts' only chance to break the roster easily, so he will not be moved until they can give him a chance to see if he can make it there.

The sox have been high on Iglesias for so long. To see Xander come from Low A Greenville (End of 2011)' date=' while Jose was in Pawtucket (End of 2011) to overtake his job would be a hell of an accomplishment. I've been a big believer in him playing SS at the MLB level, but with everybody else saying switch him, or convert him i'm starting to buy into it[/quote']

I don't think they are very high on Iglesias anymore.

Yeah I agree, plus with Xander not struggling in AA so far it's making Xander look twice the prospect. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't single-A to double-A suppose to be the toughest transition in the minors?

You're not wrong. A lot of guys in AA could be replacement level big leaguers.

No way' date=' he's going to start next season in Portland.[/quote']

Its not like AA players haven't ever had direct call ups. AA to AAA competition isn't separated by much. Profar is AA in the rangers organization and he's going to be with the club start 2013 from a lot of reports I've read. That's also on a team that's far better than the sox right now. So who's to say that Xander doesn't have a chance early 2013?

The fact that he just started AA, and he hasn't been moved to another position tells me he won't be up until 2014. He's not good enough defensively to play SS for us. I think once they move him he'd be on the fast track. Plus the reports from scouts on soxprospects keep saying late 2014. I'd love to see the kid up as soon as possible though.

I think he'll be a 2013 September call up at the latest, myself. And he could well be promoted to the big club earlier if an injury occurs.

I think they are going to take it slow with him, especially at the level he's at now. Early 2013 is really rushing it. The kid is only 19 and has been in AA for a week.

Right. September call up when the rosters expand isn't rushing him IMO.

Age is just a number. He's starting to really handle the breaking balls too which is something he struggled with in single A. His work ethic and skill set isnt that of most 19 year olds

You push him through to AAA next yr and see how he goes. If he is dominating AAA, then you wait for him to get white hot and bring him up. The Yankees wanted to do that with Montero last yr, but he started off so dreadfully in AAA, they had to wait till August

I thought his stats suffered because he wasn't being challenged;)

I agree with the strategy. We need what Bogaerts could be badly enough that a bit of aggression is apropos, anmd he has the talent to produce while he's still figuring some things out.

This kid has a Nomar Garciaparra ceiling. If he puts it together he could be the best SS in the game.

So his ceiling is higher than Nomar then?

Went deep again tonight. That's his 3rd in Portland.

This kid is raking right now... Can't wait to see his progress come spring training. Something to look forward to for sox fans. Also had a couple doubles today

Oh sorry I forgot we'd rather have him strike out.....

Huh??

I was being joking, as if 2 doubles is nothing worth talking about, nothing special for him because he's such a good hitter.

might he be a 20 time all-star a la the guy you just shipped to Cleveland for a 28 yr old minor league knuckleballer?

I think Bogaerts is the real deal. He is tearing up AA against guys who have more experience then him. If SS has been such a hole since Nomar I don't understand all this talk about moving him. Keep him at short and solve the problem once ans for all. They have played Aviles at short in 2012. This kid is projected to be much better with the bat, and his defense projects that poorly? If he keeps it up at AA he will be at AAA in 2013. He is my number one prospect right now in the system.
