If the Yankees were going to buy up every FA available, they would have by now.

They can probably afford it, but the powers that be in Baseball won't allow it.

The Yankees know there is a limit to how much they can use their blank checks.

They have done enough damage to baseball in free agency jacking up prices, since Steinbrenner started it in the late 70s.

 

The Red Sox are very fortunate to have a hedge fund $$ guy as an owner the last 8 years, who has more or less been able to keep up with them.
