I am hoping that it doesn't happen because the Red Sox use some of the $40 million coming off the books to sign Reyes.

Would you be willing to offer Reyes the same contract you gave Crawford? That's probably what it'll take to sign him.

They'll have $40 million to spend. They should do what it will take to sign him.

The lineup definitely weakens without a healthy ARod' date=' but we should see Swisher and Posada pick it up a little with more fastballs coming their way. The good thing is, we have a 6 game lead in the L column for the wild card and the sox are the streakiest team in the bigs, and we are effectively tied with them (in the L column).[/quote']ARod's presence in the line up makes everyone better. You can't convince me that Swisher and Posada will do better with ARod out of the line up.

I think they will do better because they are better than what their current line suggests. I think both are due to get hot again. So while I agree that losing ARod doesnt help anyone, I do think that a probable jump in their production should offset some of the pain of losing him

40 Million ?

Not if they re-sign Papi and Papelbon

$14 million for Drew, $8 million for Cameron, $6 million for Dice K and $8 million for Scutaro. That's $32 million without dropping Ortiz or Papelbon. My math was off. $32 million should be enough to get Reyes-- way more than enough.

Losing A-Rod for an extended period of time is just another thing that's going to make winning the division even more difficult. Their goals should simply be to get healthy and make the playoffs ... all while hoping that they have three hot pitchers going into October. But, with the Rays' pitching, I'm convinced the Yankees are going to be fighting to hold off the Rays all year long.

We have Dicek for another year

I thought they had insured his contract if he can't come back. Even if he does come back, they still have $26 million-- plenty to sign Reyes.

Then you have to factor in the arb raise for Ellsbury, Bard, and Buchholz. And Youk, Lester and Pedey become expensive next season. Granted, that doesnt raise the lux tax, but it does raise the payout from the sox. a700, I highly, highly doubt the sox sign Reyes. Their lineup is loaded and they have Lowrie, Navarro and Iglesias waiting in the wings. Assuming one of those guys can put up a .700OPS, they wont have a huge need for a guy like Reyes.

Iglesias and Navarro have not proved that they can play SS full time at the ML level.

But that's the thing, you advocate getting players who would be extraneous when you have guys who "could" get the job done. Now, if your offense sucked and these guys were your options, then yeah, it would make sense. But offense isnt your problem. You can afford to take a traditionally defense first position and try a kid there

I would vomit' date=' but I doubt you get him. Your offense is ridiculous as is, why wouldnt you put that money into a 4th or 5th starter or sign a closer?[/quote']Lackey was supposed to be our #3. Look at how that turned out.

And if Lackey doesnt right the ship long term' date=' you'll need another starter. My guess is the sox make a play for CJ Wilson in the offseason as will the Yanks[/quote']Yuk!!

Name the player, Jon Lester or CJ Wilson

Player A:

10-4 3.31ERA 1.21WHIP 114.1IP 110K

Player B:

9-3 3.20ERA 1.20WHIP 132IP 117K

I know CJ Wilson is having a good year, but I don't think it is a great idea to give a long term deal to a guy that has had a single good year.

Interesting theory, I'm assuming you also expect Granderson to revert back to his norm then. If that's what players do, it would work both ways.
