I am 100% against it.

I just don't see why you would want to take even the slightest risk putting your franchise player in a position that he has only played once in almost 1000 big league games. If they find it absolutely necessary to get Ortiz into some of these games, I would much rather see them pick a couple spots to give Gonzalez the day off and let Ortiz play first. It sucks taking Gonzo out of the lineup for a couple games but it would be a hell of a lot better than losing him to the DL.

I know that the risk of injury is pretty unlikely but why roll the dice for some stupid interleague games against Pitt and Hou? Starting Gonzalez all 3 vs Phi is a must.

Just curious what the majority is on this dilemma.

If francona is good with it then we can assume it is safe...if is is safe I would like him to play every position he volunteers to play....he is more likely to get hurt eating a hot dog than playing right field

I don't understand this fear of injury with playing the OF. I could understand the fear of giving up runs, but is the OF paved with nails or something?:dunno:

There was also a concern that Gonzo would misplay balls, and let singles turn to doubles, and doubles to triples. The brilliant defensive production of Mcdonald and Cameron have both ALREADY done that once tonight. So what's the difference between replacing a bad outfielder who can't hit for s*** with Ortiz's bat and A-gon's glove in the outfield.

And then why are not all the super star OFs moved to the infield then? :dunno: lol

Because they don't have to compensate for Darnell McDonald and Mike Cameron.

I couldn't give a s*** less about how bad Gonzo played the OF, I just don't want to take an UNNECESSARY risk, no matter how small that risk may be.

If you need Ortiz at 1B and Gonzo in the OF against the f***ing Pittsburgh Pirates and Houston Astros, you have big time problems.

I think the injury fear is really baseless.Tey are not asking him to pitch. OFers basically stand around and get one or two balls a game. There is more of an injury risk at 1B.

Exactly. Even if it meant giving up an extra run to the opponent, I wouldn't expect or want Gonzalez to dive for tough catches. So realistically the chance of something bad happen is less than it would be for playing every day at first base. Besides, I'm all for anything that involves Mike Cameron being released from the team. And by 'released' I mean 'into the wild, to be almost certainly devoured by wolves'.

The fear of injury is a bit irrational. I understand that he is a great player and it would be devastating to lose him, but we would not be asking him to ride in a plane piloted by a Yankee player. Should we also ban him from shaving?

Disagree. You are asking a slow ass guy to possibly sprint for a ball and cover a lot of ground. Gonzo plays the OF, suffers a groin or hammy injury and EVERYONE tears Tito apart for putting a 1B in the OF.

Just not worth it to get David Ortiz into the lineup.

That's horrible yet hilarious.

God forbid we lose three or for more games in a row, but if we do, I will ask you that question.

Say we make it to the WS and when we play on the road ' date=' What are we going to do sit ortiz on the bench ?[/quote']We had better hope the AL wins the All Star game.

after Cameron's performance @ PITT in the OF/AB, nothing worse can come.

I would start every single game @ NL park with this lineup:

Ells CF

Peddy 2B

GOD RF

YOUK 3B

Papi 1B

Reddick LF

Scutaro SS

Salty/TeK C

Pitcher

PH: Drew/Sutton/TEK-Salty

Send McD and Cameron to Pawtucket

Dude, U should watch "The Secret" movie.

Why think about a possible injury or negatively? he could injury playing at 1st, batting, practicing in the cage, HBP, running, walking, etc. u just can't think like that.

We need him and Ortiz batting, you can't cut their batting pace; and mostly, CC is out, Drew, McD and Cameron are batting s*** and TF starting with McD (5th) and Cameron together, we are eating three slots just like that as today, no way.

EDIT: well, i commence to smell some troubles, this pace against the s*** of the NL is pissing me off, damn!

You are right that we should be able to at least tread water against these bad teams. However, the team's fundamentals are very poor and our tactical managing sucks. That puts us at a tremendous disadvantage, so I think we need AGon's bat to succeed on this road trip.

I'd voice my opinion on this whole thing, but I know how much hardcoar baseball people don't like views that don't fall in line with the sport's historical aspects. So I shall refrain.

Not a suggestion here so much as a question, but why aren't we discussing putting A-Gon in left? Isn't that where you stick someone if they suck defensively but have a good bat?
