Aceves is making the most out of this opportunity.

As a SP:2 GS, 11 IP, 1.64 ERA. Obviously a small sample size, but we may have struck absolute gold with this guy.

Right now I'm thinking that i don't care if I see Dice K again.

Two triples for Crawford today. Overpaid loser!!!!

I can see your point. I can also see the merit of Gammons' position. I have always been a strong believer in bunching your best hitters at the top of the line up. Crawford IMO is one of our top 5 weapons' date=' so I would agree that he should be at the top of the order, but who gets squeezed out of the top 5. At the beginning of the year I would have said Ellsbury. I would still lean that way, but it could be argued that it should be Pedroia.[/quote']

Well I think this team makes an exception to that top 5 hitters ruling. This team has 6 excellent hitters, Ellsbury is an excellent leadoff hitter, Pedey and Craw are both excellent 2 hole hitters, and Gonzo - Youk - Ortiz are all excellent hitters. So you've got 6 excellent hitters to place into 5 slots. Just drop Gonzo Youk Ortiz down a slot, and give them more RBI opportunities.

Thats my take, at least.

IMO Ellsbury is not at the same level as the others.

Exactly. This was a poor' date=' poor move. Essentially, the Yankees released him due to spite, since they were pissed he broke his collarbone bicycling. Instead, he goes to Boston and gives them a much needed 6th and soon to be 5th starter. I've always liked Aceves, even when people on this site killed him while in pinstripes since he doesnt get a lot of K's and just gets by on command. But he will give you innings and get outs, which is the name of the game[/quote']

If nothing else' date=' he throws strikes and moves the game along.[/quote']

And he gets wins. Assuming Bard doesn't blow this one, he'd be 16-1 for his career, with good numbers overall (his K/9 isn't as bad as I thought it would be either). And let's not forget that Aceves was likely going to be the winning pitcher in his last start vs. the Cubs before the bullpen imploded.

+1

I know is early too, but I'm telling you all, my mexican "El Paton" Aceves (28) can take spot in the rotation calmly, instead go out there and spend another 100 MUSD in another D-K or Lackey. He was the most winner pitcher as a reliever in 2009, he's a 3.09 ERA/1.058 WHIP/2.3 BB/9IP career pitcher, and has showed a lot control and command in his career, he's really underestimated and deserves the opportunity. I really don't understand why the hell the NYY let him go, last injury? he's young.

Crawford now hitting .240.

Amazing what 6 for 7 can do for your average. Absolutely amazing.

Pedroia is at .243, but no panicking about him thank goodness.

I agree with that. But he is by far and away our best leadoff hitter, and our team is best with him hitting 1st.

Our problem is that we have 2 hitters who excel in the 2 slot. I almost look at it as Pedroia and Crawford being 2a and 2b. I just think having those 3 hitters really sets the table well, and there will be plenty of first innings when you have a couple RISP before Gonzo even gets to the plate.

Absolutely. 6 K's in 6 IP today as well, giving him 8 K in 11 IP. I'll take that for sure. And he should be 2-0. He throws strikes and keeps us in the games.

A huge advantage he has over DiceK - He's got great tempo. Defense doesn't fall asleep. He pounds the zone. Defense stays on their toes and makes plays behind him.

If he remains a SP for us, I can see him being a 10-12 game winner with a 3.60 ERA.

Carl with another triple.

Yeah, slump over.

and not converted in Rs, here's where my statement rest, if he was 1-3 spot this game were even more scandalous.

This is so fun well at least until before I do the pushups haha. Damn this offense is on FIRE! Pedroia needs to get hurt more.
