For the record (and this is to everyone) italics is the universal forum indicator of sarcasm, so that people don't randomly assume that you are being serious and start unnecessary responses accordingly.

Either that or an /end sarcasm at the end of the selection.

That girl he married was slamming. Too bad she blew up!

Yeah, when they used that plot device to wipe out most of the starting cast, the show jumped the shark.

Well' date=' it's not the worst city in Ohio, anyways.[/quote']

Still better than Detriot. Have you ever driven through that city? It was like one of those catholic commercials asking for money with those starving black kids from africa. it's like just burn down the city, I understand why people don't want to buy cars from that city, even though I own two Fords and a huge Ford man.

If you can't discern sarcasm through text, then either the internet has eroded your literacy and interpretation skills to the point where you are no longer viable as a member of an intelligent conversation, or you are so dense that you should never offer a response to anyone in the firs place.

Seriously. Sarcasm is sarcasm, spoken or written, and before message boards this was not exactly neurosurgery.

Satire was a celebrated literary art long before the invention of the internet.

Pay more attention. Read more books. Suddenly, you may find the explanation of someone's sarcasm almost completely unnecessary.

However, I suppose that the internet has really contributed to the evolving and eventual superiority of language, right?

I have family there. Trust me, driving through that city is a recurring memory I'd forget if I could.

I understand your point, and I think that you are right most of the time. However, there are certain people that are tough to read. Similarly, if you have a newbie on here (as you are likely to have during the baseball season) they might not know the particular poster well and make a judgment call based on context, and that hardly turns out well.

I'm just saying that there's sarcasm protocol to lessen human error. And it'd be easier to do that than to have a fight start because someone misinterpreted a post that was meant to be sarcastic. That was all I was trying to say.

Sometimes a guy hits .500 in spring training, then goes 0fer20 to start the season.

Not the case with Ellsbury.

I see Wake has become the official bullpen mop.

Note to Tito: the Sox don't look like they were ready to face the AL Pennant winners on their turf for the season opening series. Not that I'm pointing any fingers.
