Hughes definitely threw the ball much better today than he had in his previous starts, but I don't think his velocity was as good as the gun indicated. Based on velocity readings from other pitchers during this season, I suspect the gun in Chicago is hot.

It was showing Miller as hitting 95 on Sunday, and he has not been throwing that hard.

MLB.com had him 92-94' date=' mostly in the 92.5 range[/quote']

MLB data is from what was provided by the system in place at the cell.

Just take 2 MPH off whatever you see display in the broadcast. It had Papelbon sitting 97 MPH on Sunday. PApelbon is more like 94-96 on a good day now.

Regardless, it wasn't his velocity that allowed him to be effective. It was the fact that he had a good breaking ball and had half an idea where his fastball was going for a change.

He was given way too much rope, especially considering how well rested the bullpen is. Girardi shouldn't care at all about whether or not he gets a win.

Offensive is obviously on fire' date=' but AJ is just all kinds of terrible.[/quote']

Who do you think the Yanks should use as there Number 2 starter coming playoff time?

At the moment I think they have to go with Colon

Sadly I think they have no other choice. And Freddy would have to go in game three, if they keep the status quo in terms of performance.

These last 2 months will be huge. AJ did this same s*** last yr and we didnt address it. We have 6 viable starters right now, not a bad idea to have AJ skip a turn to get Nova another start and let the irrational one clear his mind. Right now, Colon is our #2 and depending on who we face, Garcia is the #3. But if Hughes shows last start was no fluke or if Burnett clears his head and throws like he did early on, that can all change

Ivan Nova was the balls today. Not sure how you can send him down, he's been dominant in his 2 starts since coming back. 14.2IP 12H 3ER 1BB 16K. He's starting to learn how to set hitters up, you cannot send him down now

When the f*** is this Yankees rotation going to crash and burn? They're long overdue this is ********. And this Yankees offense what in the hell? It's like they switched places with the Sox.

Our staff has a better ERA than the sox and is actually full of guys who've done it before. This isnt an Aaron Small thing where a career MiLBer goes on fire. These are guys who have been aces in the past who know how to pitch in the bigs. Thing is, injuries derailed both their careers and now they seem to have rectified their arsenal, even if one of them may have used illegal methods.

But the biggest thing from last night was Soriano. He looked filthy again. 93-95 in the stadium and nobody looked comfortable against him. If he's healthy for the stretch run, our games will be 6 innings long. And with Wade, Ayala, and Logan throwing the way they have been lately, the games can get even shorter

Right, because Becket, Lester and Lackey have never pitched deep into the playoffs.

I am sorry, it was meant to point to Colon and Garcia actually being big league pitchers with big league resumes. In 2005, we did it with Small, Chacon and Wang. Wang turned out to be a very good pitcher before being injured, but Chacon and Small effectively pitched the half season of their lives. Garcia and Colon have done it for a long time, both went down with injuries and both are now pitching well again

Colon hasn't had a season like this SINCE 2005.

Please, you make it seem like your whole rotation is worthy of CY Young. I guarantee before the season started you were s***ing bricks because you didn't get Lee and Pettitte retired. No way in hell you were comfortable having a rotation of CC-Burnett-Hughes-Colon-Nova.

Burnett is still garbage, Hughes got his ass sent down then came back, Colon is a cheater and Nova is a lucky ass punk. You'll never win s*** with that rotation. They'll got rocked in the playoffs and I'm going to enjoy every last minute of it just like when the Rangers f***ed you guys up last year.

Where did I say that? Prior to the season I was very concerned. But the old guard showed they still have something in the tank

The NY papers are reporting that the only reason why Posada has not been released is his history with the team. I wonder if they wll cut him when ARod gets activated.
