This reminds me of Wang circa 2009 when he had absolutely nothing' date=' then we found out he needed shoulder surgery[/quote']

The velocity is only part of the problem. Just like last year, for some reason, you don't want to acknowledge his other issues. He has no other pitches. The curve is terrible. He has no way to finish hitters.

To the guy who yelled Hughes you suck when he was walking into the dugout, you are correct sir.

His curve is fine when it is used as a true secondary pitch. The problem is, his FB needs to be crisp, sharp, and located. He cannot locate, period. I dont care about his velocity. He's missing down the f***ing middle again, and he's throwing 89-90mph again. I can hit that and I havent played baseball in 8 yrs.

No way, dude. His secondary pitches are double-secret-probation-plus pitches. The scouting report says so.

Phil Hughes' CB in 2010

FanGraph's Pitch Values: -5.9

5.8% of his CBs resulted in swings and misses ... the MLB average was 11.63%

His CB sucks.

Bait much?

A pitcher should be able to go off their fastball with their breaking pitches. The problem is, his curve isnt good enough to stand alone. He needs the velo difference, he needs to have the hitter on their heels with the fastball and have them jumping out on the curve. Right now, there is no fear of the heat, so there is no use for the curve. He's dead meat right now.

Sure. It's just that, when people talk about Hughes now, they pin it all on the velocity. That's only part of the issue. Even if he corrects that, it's going to be hard for him to be better than a league average pitcher with the secondary stuff as is.

Bart catching much more of the plate than in the previous two innings.

EDIT: Yup, never thought he would get out of that inning unscathed. Should be Robertson right now.

Oh well, it is early and I was expecting to lose this game. Hughes isnt right, he has to go to AAA or on the DL. He is absolutely useless right now. Colon needs to move into the rotation. Logan needs to get DFA'd. I wouldnt mind seeing a guy like Garrison get a chance as a lefty specialist, cant be worse than Logan
