I hate when people do that, too.

Colon is throwing 96? What the s***?

Haha I'm only kidding.

And yeah, Colon's velocity has been a bit inconsistent, but he's topping out at 96. Odd and encouraging.

Oh, and what happened to the Yankees' offense?

They can come back after a reliever comes in. ;)

Hahaha, you've got Buehrle in fantasy?

And Jeter, wow. Even a decent SS makes that a routine play, instead of having to make the wild spinning throw.

Colon with 8 innings of 1 run baseball? You've got to be kidding!

He and Garcia are looking very Shawn Chacon and Aaron Small-ish. They get this kind of luck all the time.

And he has actually been that good. Five of the seven hits have been soft, and there have been zero well struck outs. But he's doing it with mostly fastballs (although they're very good fastballs), so I'm concerned the league will catch up soon.

Don't forget about the resurgence of Eric Chavez, who had been dead wood for the last 3 years or so.

Good old Mo strike zone.

There's little reason to worry, regardless of what happens to his stuff, because that's the strikezone he gets 90% of the time.

Colon and Garcia are luck, but Chavez isn't playing every day so he isn't wearing down like he would be if he was with the A's.

I dont think Colon is as Shawn Chacon-y as Garcia, although Garcia did have a mediocre season in the AL last season. Colon's stuff died for about the last 5 seasons with fastballs that would peek into the low 90s but not really ever cross the 93-95 mark. This yr, he's pumping the heat in there 92-93 on average with a max in the mid 90s. It may not be vintage Colon, but it is close. And the thing that he is doing now is he is putting tail on the heat. Back in the day, he was 96-97 4 seam gas. Now he's 92-93 2 seam heat with movement. As long as he stays healthy, I think he will be a big addition. The problem is, he is the most out of shape pitcher in baseball and he's 38, and he hasnt pitched a full season since 2005.

maybe he's just has the ''weirdest shape''

he looked to strong in the 8th to be called ''the most out of shape ''

I never thought much about it

why do you say that

Because I think the primary responsibility of the utility infielder should be defense ... and Pena is much better than Nunez in that department ... especially at SS.

Posted
Nunez is an average defender. He can make the flashy play and has a good arm, he just doesnt make the routine plays as well as Jeter. Though over a full season, I think Nunez will have a higher WAR. Nice to see the Yankees start to center a few balls. Nunez made a bad error, but a walk, a double and 2 runs scored is more than we could expect Jeter to do

If it was between Nunez and Pena for a starting role, I'd agree. Can't have Pena's bat in the order over the course of an entire season. But when you're looking for a utility infielder, I think you need to prioritize defense.
