To a minor league deal no less. I like the signing. If he shows up to camp and cannot outpitch Nova, then there is no money on the hook. If he shows up and shows he has what it takes, then he makes $1.6 mil in salary. Garcia, Colon, Mitre, Nova, and a bunch of other solid prospects. I am sure we can find one out of that group that can pitch (my money is on Nova). Now we just need to sign Pettitte

Pettitte's still in limbo?

Would the NYY take him back in June/July if he wanted?

They would probably be desperate enough to, but I don't think it'll come to that. Anything is possible, but I expect we'll hear one way or another from Pettitte in the next two weeks, before pitchers and catchers report.

I don't think Pettitte coming back in June would be a bad thing, he's getting up there in years, if anything it might make him fresher for the playoffs not having to endure a full season.

It's not a bad idea, all I'm saying is that I don't think it'll happen. I think it'll be either the full season or nothing - just my prediction.

But back to Garcia, unlike Colon, I think he has a legitimate shot at becoming the Yankees' fifth starter if Pettitte doesn't return. Him and Mitre are quite close, but, as of right now, I'd give the slight edge to Garcia. However, if Pettitte returns, I'd rather have Mitre in the bullpen than Garcia.

Yeah, that makes sense. Don't think he'd leave them hanging that long. Or any team for that matter.

More dumpster diving by the Yanks. Lol! They have the biggest payroll in the game' date=' and they are sifting through garbage for pitching.[/quote']

Agreed. I'm not thrilled with either this or the Colon signings. But I suppose the depth never hurts.

As for Andy and when/if he decides to return, I think it's very possible he waits until the conclusion of his testimony in Roger's trial, which starts in July. If he comes back before the start of the season or even in June for that matter, his obligation to testify will undoubtedly cause conflict and be a distraction.

Having the biggest payroll doesn't help you when there are no elite pitchers in FA to spend it on.

after missing out on Lee, yeah. It's sort of embarrassing. They're about 6 years too late on the Garcia thing.

From the perspective of a Yankees' fan, there is nothing about this signing to get excited about, but this isn't embarrassing. Sure, they're used to getting the big names, but it doesn't always work out that way and there's absolutely no reason not to sign these guys for nothing. There are absolutely no expectations, and sometimes these moves work out (2005 Yankees).

On a different note, I absolutely love watching James Harrison play. Great choice.

John Lackey looks like a genius signing for the Sox. Yes, they paid a boatload for him, but he would have been the 2nd best pitcher on the market (even with his 2010 season behind him) and the Yankees would have swept him up. Instead the Sox were apparently smart enough to look ahead and take him off the market. A big, 200+ IP guy with a career of postseason success? Yeah, the Yankees are trying to convince one of them to come back in Pettitte and are sweeping up old/out of shape ones left and right.

I dunno, I like watching my Yankee friend get all bent out of shape when I bring up the Phillies and Cliff Lee.

Oh, when you said embarrassing, I didn't realize you were referring to Cliff Lee. I still don't find Cliff Lee spurning the Yankees to be embarrassing either, but I gotcha.

And the Yankees themselves had control over that? Morons are in every stadium, and I can tell you this, Red Sox fans are WAYYYY worse to Yankee fans than the Yankee fans are to sox fans. And this has changed dramatically since 2003

I was only kidding lol. The Yankees obviously aren't at fault, and I suspect Emmz was kidding as well.

And I can't say one is worse than the other, but I've heard some really really really bad stories about Yankee fans in Fenway. But I've only been there to see the Yankees once, and aside from a few people yelling at me which I don't mind and expect, it wasn't bad at all.

Idk' date=' not piss off his wife.[/quote']

So if I bought a Phillies T-Shirt and Cap, along with with a ticket to a baseball game his wife attended and hocked loogies at her Lee would've came to NY?

As a White Sox fan' date=' thank you for signing Sweaty Freddy. Now Kenny Williams won't be tempted to go out and sign him again.[/quote']

Hey no problem, one man's trash is another man's ........ummm, trash :dunno: lol

He has nothing to do with the 2010-11 FA class. The Yanks were not going to sign him last year, because they thought they would land Lee this year. If the Sox didn't sign him to a multiple year contract, someone else would have and he still wouldn't be on the Yankees.
