Would you want your kid thinking he has to use steroids just to have a "shot" at being a professional athlete.?

The advantages of steroids are is more then 'slight' I think 'significant' would be more accurate. If it wasn't, why put yourself through serious health risks for a 'slight' improvement?

Using PEDs is akin to Barry Bonds using an aluminum bat, Roger Clemens using a smaller baseball, Tiger Woods using an unapproved ball or club or carrying an extra club, or Roberto Luongo using 20-inch wide goalie pads.

I wouldn't want my kid to think that, and I would tell him that. It's the parents responsibility to make sure a kid knows that, not a grown man playing a game who doesn't even know that freakin kid exists.

Serious health risks occur from abuse, just like with anything else on this planet. Besides, isn't it used health wise to recover from injuries?

aluminum bats and smaller balls are used directly in game. They are easily controlled in-game factors that are regulated. Of course it wouldn't be right to have one guy bat with wood then another aluminum, or one guy pitch with a bigger ball then bring in a relief pitcher with a smaller one. That leaves one person at a disadvantage. A person's strength is not an easily controlled factor of a game. It varies from person to person and so do the effects of steroids. Might as well make it so all players also have to do the same workouts and conditioning so that one doesn't outwork the other and get just a bit stronger or faster.

Steroids are body enhancers, the player is not using his own body power to train, he is using medications, lifting weights is not cheating because the player is using his own body strength and ability to further improve his capabilities.

Steroids just like Human Growth Hormone(HGH) are artificial growth (not in the way you see artificial, because it is not real honest growth) and ruin sports and lives alike.

Using steroids, HGH, etc. without a prescription is illegal. There are no laws against lifting weights. There is nothing wrong with weights, the ancient greeks/romans lifted weights to become stronger. They sure didnt put a needle in the butt and inject roids. so lifting weights is not cheating. In fact there is hardly any other way to bulk up naturally, than "straining" your muscles to make them grow.

People that take roids still have to lift weights to achieve any change. the roids just increase the rate of muscle growth.

Honestly, I think that keeping anyone out of the hall of fame is stupid. They used steroids in an era where everyone used steroids. Does that sound like something worth shaming a player for? Its pathetic how the mlb has forced the players to lie about steroid use over the last decade, and it has ruined the reputations of a lot of incredible players.

Its getting to the point where we're realizing everyone was doing it. In the beginning, most of the stuff they were using weren't even against the rules. How about we ban every Yankee from the hall of fame because we believe that pinstripes are cheating? I don't want to argue morality, but banning an entire class of players from the Hall? Come on now.

I think taking steroids is cheating. Letting players into the Hall of Fame who are proven cheaters cheapens the meaning of the Hall.

Interesting, since the HOF is full of known cheaters who took greenies, doctored balls, and used corked bats.

There's a ridiculous double-standard about the issue, and to the casual fan (not saying you are one) it seems just and fair, when it really isn't.

This ^.

All the purest like to believe the game has been a level playing field across the generations. No generation has an advantage over the others. Which is just an absurd notion.

Blyleven is truly deserving. He still has the best curveball that I have seen. He threw it at different speeds. He would buckle the knees of the best RH hitters. Alomar was one of the very best all round second baseman that I have seen in my life. I think it was a terrible oversight that Bobby Grich is not on the ballot, because he didn't get enough votes in his first year of eligibility. He was a great defender, and he was one of the first second basemen that was an offensive force.

My only gripe is Barry Larkin. He deserves to be in just as much as Alomar in my opinion.

I'm also really glad Blyleven got in, as it shows a shift towards voting for who is more deserving based on factors players actually control, instead of s***** variables like W-L record.

I agree that he was better than his W-L record, but even based on that standard he was good enough to get in. He has more wins than many other HOFers.

Well, we don't agree on the steroid thing, but perhaps I'll change my mind over time.

As for Larkin, I agree he was right there with Alomar as a player. It's a shame he has to sweat it out for another year or two.
