Out of curiosity was there a specific reason you didn't include Buchholz? (other then playing for Boston ;) ) With a price tag of 443k; Clay is coming off of a 17-7 / 2.33 ERA / 1.20 WHIP season. Theres no reason to believe he can't have the same level of success in 2011

Buch got picked earlier. Liriano and Weaver were just recently chosen.

Buch should be (IMO) about an 17-8 or 18-8, 3.25 ERA guy this year. His strand rate last year was crazy high.

I like Buchholz a lot, but there are a couple reasons I didn't include him in that post.

1. Liriano and Weaver were picked more recently, and I mentioned them primarily because I was planning on using my most recent pick to select one of them.

2. While Buchholz was great last year, some of his peripherals suggest a regression might be in order for this year, and that same evidence doesn't exist for Weaver and Liriano (in fact, Liriano was extremely unlucky in 2010, and his numbers will likely improve in 2011). Some of these peripherals are...

3.61 FIP

4.20 xFIP

.265 BABIP

79% LOB

Posters in other threads have outlined areas in which Buchholz can be expected to improve in 2011 to help offset the expected normalization of these peripherals, and those ideas certainly have some merit. But for 2011, I don't put him in the same class as Liriano and Weaver.

I have Flynnatic and Itals picks so whenever it's there turn I'll pick for them.

Excellent. Once JBay comes on to make his pick, we should be able to get this thing moving.

I had a tough time deciding between Weaver and Gallardo, I decided on Gallardo due to his salary of 500k

I don't think Bucholtz will break 3 again this year with regards to ERA, and I didn't consider Liriano this early because of injury problems in prior years

I think Gallardo may have better stuff, but he has yet to put it all together for a full season. His 2nd half in 2009 and 2010 was nothing to write home about. Meanwhile, Weaver pitches much better at home than he does on the road (so does Gallardo, for that matter, albeit in a SSS) and his strikeouts went way up last season from previous years, which was surprising. We'll have to see if he can duplicate or come close to his success from 2010 and if Gallardo can take the next step.

I was 50/50 on them, but I thought Gallardo being the bigger name would give Weaver a shot to get back to me, and I also saw that Gallardo had a lower salary

His second half coupled with activating Beckett and trading Oswalt knocked me out of a playoff spot. Gallardo is an excellent talent. If offense for pitchers was considered in this league, he'd be good for that too.

Can't argue with that logic. Gallardo, Liriano, and Buchholz are all huge bargains. Weaver is a good deal, too, for under $5 million.

Gallardo is a great hitting pitcher. Hmm, that gives me an idea for a silly thread.

Well...unfortunately we are doing a DH, so his hitting doesn't really help. It's good for versatility when you have injury problems though

Stick around JBay' date=' because I think it's about to get right back to you.[/quote']

Will do, ill be home for the rest of the day so Ill be on and off here for most of the night and should get my pick in pretty quickly.

Sounds good. No rush, just wanted to let you know that I think the picks prior to yours should go pretty quickly.
