Voters got it right

According to a Twitter post from Venezuelan journalist Alexander Mendoza of El Nacional, Felix Hernandez has won the AL Cy Young Award.

The official announcement is coming at 2 p.m. Rays lefty David Price and New York's CC Sabathia were also top candidates

Great to see that the voters no longer look at a pitcher's win-loss record as the primary factor for determining who wins the Cy Young. Felix was the best AL pitcher this by a long shot.

I thought Theo was hot for Felix and he was a perfect fit for the Red Sox? What the hell happened?

He stayed w/ Seattle.

Conrats to Felix! :)

Deserved it, CC was not even close to being as dominant, but I feared he'd win it based on history, which favors win-loss records, and disregards advanced stats, or even simpler stats like ERA. They always liked to pick the guy with the best record. Remember a couple of times, I think 2004 RJ went like 14-14 (on a team that lost 111 games, btw) and IMO definitely should have won the award. And the year Colon won his Cy Young, where Santana should have won it, but only won 16 games to Colon's 21.

I don't know if anyone mentioned it' date=' but Lester came in 4th.[/quote']

And Clay was 6th:

In the results, released this afternoon at 2 p.m., Hernandez (167) was followed by Price (111), Sabathia (102), Lester (33), and Jered Weaver (24), with Buchholz coming in sixth (20).

Oh, yeah, he got MEGA snubbed in that one. I have no idea how Zito got that one, considering Pedro hit 20 wins, had the best ERA, most Ks, best WHIP, etc etc. In Fenway Park too. That's definitely one of the big snubs. He didn't even lack in W-L, he just flat out got robbed.

He pitched a hell of a season i just think that the voters should take into consideration that he didn't pitch one game that had any significance.

that has nothing to do with it

CY is for the best pitcher period , dosent matter if the team was fighting for a playoff spot or not

He could have thrown 30 no-hitters and it still wouldn't have gotten his team to the playoffs. Hell, they'd probably lose half of them 1-0 with 3 errors in one inning.

That's not his fault, and it doesn't diminish what he did at all.

I understand that i just think its harder for price to get the wins and numbers that felix did, persay price facing the yankees lineup and CC then going into boston and facing Lester. He for sure had a season to remember i just believe that the voters should take into consideration pitching under pressure and the significance of the games.

Felix has to face the Rangers, so your point goes both ways. In fact, I find it all the more impressive that he didn't get discouraged from one of the worst offensive teams of our time, and continued to go out and shut down the opposition.

Also, if what you say is true, then what about Cliff Lee's amazing Cy Young year? How about Zack Grienke's season from last year? Their teams didn't give them a chance to play in meaningful games because they were so abysmal. I disagree with you totally, because the best pitcher shouldn't be decided on whether or not his team was any good. It's not the Most Valuable award for a reason, bc it's not value-based, it has nothing to do with the team getting into the postseason. But, to each their own.

I agree with this, pitching in the AL East is much more difficult then the teams Felix has to face in the AL West
