We'd still need another halfway decent lefty.

You're right, I wasn't paying much attention to whether the reliever is left handed or not. Does anybody know if Jenk's high ERA last year was related to his injury problems?

I'm sorry 26 to 6' date=' is that thing in your avatar supposed to be attractive? Because all I can think of when I look up and see that is "Oh hey, the Geico caveman is a Yankee fan."[/quote']

Could have been but my guess is it was mostly related to the horrible defense the Chi Sox had. He's a ground ball pitcher.

Should be noted that Jenks has a 1.06 ERA with a 0.756 WHIP in 17 career innings against the NYY.

3rding the caveman thought.

I have never come across a real actual female yankee fan, nevermind an attractive one. They are always boring looking chicks who only know of A-rod. Only attractive ones I've met are usually latin and again they know nothing of the yankees for real, it's just cool in this area to be latin and like the yankees so i basically discredit them as a whole.

Not to mention the Jersey girls. Ewww.

Jenks had a .368 BABIP. That is absolutely unsustainable. Denying the fact that luck plays an important role in a pitcher's ERA with a sample size as small as a single season (in reliever's cases) is asinine.

On Papelbon: His K/9 is excellent, as usual, and his BABIP was around normal levels, but that 3.79 BB/9 is a real killer.

Of particular note was his .374 BABIP vs lefties last year, yet his peripherals were similar. Perhaps if his luck against lefties reversed a bit, he could be much better in '11. God knows the Sox need him to get his s*** straight.

But the half-removed robe in 26 to 6's avatar gives her a shadowy chin, and with the wild hair and the small frame of reference, it looks like the Geico commercial character.

"so easy a caveman could do it" either way.

attractive females that like sports are a rare breed, i'd imagine coming across attractive females that are yankees fans in the heart of red sox nation is even harder to find.

It's true. My best friend wants me to teach her about baseball. I have my doubts.

I met one attractive female baseball fan but she was

a: spoken for

b: a Blue Jays fan.

She also thought John McDonald was an elite player because he was a flashy defensive SS, but she did know her team's roster at least so that's something.

This one cracks me up...

There are rumblings that the Boston Red Sox are looking to potentially trade Jonathan Papelbon. This is on the heals of them agreeing to a contract with Bobby Jenks. Incarcerated Bob (rotoinfo.com) just tweeted that the Mets have spoken to the Red Sox about Papelbon, possibly swapping him and a prospect for Beltran. There are also rumblings that a 3rd team might be needed and could take K-Rod off the Mets hands too. Stay tuned on this one folks….

Papelbon + for Beltran would be a fun move for this club, though I don't know where Beltran fits if Ellsbury is still around...

...would the Sox really move both Papelbon and Ellsbury? I think they probably would for the right pieces.

What would they trade Ellsbury for? Prospects? Anyway, I do like this:

Crawford

Pedroia

Gonzalez

Youkilis

Ortiz

Beltran

Drew

Lowrie

The Red Sox are offering a 1 year deal to Wheeler. I doubt he takes it unless it's for a high amount of money, but he's a Rhode Island native so that might help him (in addition to leaving the now weakened Rays).

I know I'm getting ahead of myself, but one of the best things about that signing is that he's a Type A free agent, but he wasn't offered arbitration, so we don't have to give up a pick. And, if we have him on a one year deal, and the FA rankings are based on the past few years, that means unless Wheeler tanks, he'd still be likely to be a type A free agent (type B at the worst) when he's done with his contract so we could turn him for draft picks.

In any case, I'm not sure how much money we have left to spend before we get to the luxury tax, but if we got Wheeler and a cheap lefty (since we likely won't get Fuentes), we'd turn from a s***** bullpen to one of the best bullpens in the majors.

I doubt there's enough money to go around, especially if we need another RH bat, but one can dream. Obviously there's a difference between dreaming for Fuentes and Soriano than hoping for something more realistic like Wheeler and a lefty, but who knows.

I don't like it because I still think Ellsbury has more potential now then Beltran. Beltran with his injuries has not got much left in him if you ask me. The idea of losing Papelbon for Beltran seems rather dumb if you ask me, we don't need a CF at the moment anyway.

As for the Wheeler discussions, I would love for him to sign. A 1 year contract may not give him his due, but he apparently is wanting to play close to home and that may cause him not to push too hard for a multi-year contract with us.

I'd imagine that he'd get a higher AAV for a 1 year deal than a multi year deal. I'd rather give him a 2 year deal and backload it (to count mostly against next year's luxury tax) and you'd save money per year by giving him a second year. He's been consistent and good enough to deserve it, and I think that would take our bullpen to the top. Then again I'd be happy enough having him for a year and shipping him for draft picks, but that's how I roll, especially with the way that the Red Sox draft.

In the past 8 years, the Yankees have paid a luxury tax of $190 million total, compared to around $20 million for the Red Sox. Check the Sam Horn chatgroup for the numbers.

The Yankees are in a class by themselves when it comes to spending. Consistently above $200 mil yearly. The Red Sox are in the $140-150 mil range almost yearly. AdGon's salary is only $6mil this year, which made Crawford affordable.

The Red Sox will be below the luxury tax this year, as is their policy, while the Yankees will continue to be safely above, as is their policy.

Anybody who says the Red sox spend as much as the Yankees is either nuts or has an agenda. Nobody spends like the Yankees.

Yeah, although if you're losing a pick I'd rather have Soriano than Balfour. Granted the money would probably be different and Soriano probably wants to close more than Balfour. It looks like the Tampa Bay bullpen is going to take hit losing Balfour, Soriano, and Wheeler.

Incarcerated Bob (rotoinfo.com) is full of BS and crap

they had on the other day that Lee was re-signing with the Rangers

Beltran makes no sense at all right now. Unless you are moving Ellsbury when his value is at an all time low, then you dont have the room

It is the only number that matters. When BABIP' date=' xFIP and and K/9 affect the scoreboard, let me know:D[/quote']

Joe Morgan, is that you???

With the signing of Jenks' date=' it is being reported that the Red Sox payroll has exceeded the Yankee payroll.[/quote']

There is absolutely no way that is true.
