First Francoeur, now Melky? What is Dayton's obsession with terrible outfielders? He might as well find some AAA journeymen to take the job, at least he would save some money and get a similar amount of production.

Melky is not a bad option. he is above avg speed and can hit. Loosely using the word hit. Very Good D.

His career triple slash is not kind, and his UZR throughout his career varies between slightly above-average to horrendous (although, his horrific fielding year in Atlanta may be an aberration).

I think the Sox will package Ellsbury in a trade then. To get what in return, I'm not sure, but I just don't see them carrying that many lefties on the roster given the makeup of the AL East competition's starting pitchers. Thoughts?

I will easily take a bet that states Crawford won't be in a Red Sox uniform. Me being in another country might prove tough for financial bets' date=' but I'm willing to make a gentleman's bet with you. We can ask the board what the winner get's :D[/quote']:lol::lol::lol:

At this point, the way the FO is throwing money around, it wouldn't surprise me if they traded Ellsbury, Matsuzaka, and Lowrie + a prospect to Arizona for Justin Upton, then went out and signed Cliff Lee.

I'm kidding....I think.

Are you high?

If so, put down the bong and think for three seconds about the colossal stupidity that giving Carl Crawford eight years and 180/190 millions dollars would be.

I've said it before, and i'll say it again: It's not about how visible your boner is for the player, but how he fits short and long term into the organization.

It's like you're a nine-year-old kicking and screaming for a video game console that's really really expensive but is almost outdated, and your parents warned you about it. It's still good, but once they stop making games for it, you'll start bitching and moaning for a newer one.

In fact:

Daily reminder to the FO:

Don't give Carl Crawford a stupid contract.

This makes me laugh too! Where the hell were you getting numbers like $180/190 million? Does he fit now? You must think Theo is an imbecile. Don't hate on my GM.

If anyone should be called out here it's you. Crawford was looking for a hell of a lot more money and years after that stupid Werth contract, yet got almost the same amount of money and same amount of years.

What happened to Theo "getting his lunch eaten by everyone"? Where's the bitching and moaning now?

No more bitching and moaning about anything, that's what you should be focusing on.

Ya I never went back and put the $ stipulation in I wanted it, but if you fairly look, I did bring up soon one of my biggest issues with Crawford was the 8/180M it was going to take to get him ruled him out of Boston.

But in an act of good sportsmanship, I will let you have control over my custom signature for 1 month as soon as it's available to me. Fair? Or I can erase my signature, thus you avoiding the time when someone from the Red Sox system at the time of the statement will make a impact for the Sox

Those where the reports going around right after Werth signed. Because up until that point everyone was expecting Crawford to get 2 extra years and 40M or so more then what Werth was eventually going to sign for. To be fair instead of stepping back and waiting for it to play out like I had with Agon, I jumped at the intial thought of having to pay him that much and didn't consider the possibility it was actually going to take less to get him. I was wrong. It happens.

I was just told over and over that it was not going to happen.

Your offer is generous. I will think about a suitable user name.

So where the reports that the Agon deal fell through. I already admitted I fell for the Crawford talk, while keeping a level head with Agon circus.

Fair enough :D I look forward to it. BTW, at what point do I get control over that, 10K posts? I have no clue.

Wait, weren't you using those same types of reports to criticize the FO's negotiating abilities during the Adrian Gonzales trade?

Come on now, stay consistent.

Wow. Just woke up and saw the news. This is pretty f***ing cool. I'm not gonna lie though, Werth was my first choice. But after seeing that fiscally irresponsible contract that Rizzo threw at him, getting Crawford isn't too shabby. I love the aggressiveness that the FO is showing. Now its Lee or bust for the MFY.:harhar:

Can I just say the Yankee poster's silence or few words around here now is priceless :D Their sweating bad' date=' it's a 3 horse race for Lee now. LAA has all the money they where going to offer Crawford now. Lee definitely gets 7 year offer form the Yanks now IMO.[/quote']

The Yankees have just gone to a seventh year for Lee, tweets SI's Jon Heyman.

That didn't take long. Yankees in full on panic mode now with LAA having tons of money to spend and no one to spend it on lol

This is awesome, they have to go 7 years on a 32 year old pitcher

I wouldn't be surprised if the Angels spent it on Beltre

I'm sure you hope this is the cae. But with the Yankees already adding to their offer since Crawford signed, it would seem LAA's eventual involvement is pushing the Yankee hand. From what I read they where stuck on 6 years and unwilling to move. Of course this is the Yankees and the bend over quicker then a groupie backstage at a rock concert when it comes to negotiations. So I guess it's not a shocker they buckled and fell back on their usual way of business, blank check, sign here please.

How is that any different then the Red Sox offering Lee a 7 year deal earlier this week? When Lee rejected their offer the Theo went into panic mode due to fear of missing the playoffs 2 years in a row and overpaid Crawford; making him the highest paid OF in baseball history. A guy who's never hit 20 HR's and who's speed is wasted being crammed into that tiny left field in Fenway. lol

Speculation. You get a lot of it this time of year. Has Theo or anyone from the Red Sox confirmed they offered him a deal?

And yes, I am one of the posters who is not thrilled about the deal. But if you take a step back and look at it, it's not completely absurd. As it was explained earlier, there are only like 5 players with higher WAR outputs the Crawford(he's higher rated then Agon). He just get's it done in a different way, and just because of that it shouldn't be discounted. Which is what I was basically doing because he doesn't hit the long ball like a typical COF. It's s*** load of money, but it's going to an everyday player. Not going to a guy that pitches every 5th day.

And if Crawford has enough of an arm, they could always move him to RF to let him cover more ground and have JD in LF to take the strain off of him. Or put Crawford in CF and Ellsbury in RF. Ellsbury has shown an ability to play RF.

There have been more than 1 report that Lee was offered a 7 yr deal from the sox. The AAV was apparently below $20 million, and it was likely an attempt to get their chief rival to bite on offering a 7 yr deal at big bank on a guy who shouldnt get more than a 5 yr deal.

OK, simple question: How do you take this lineup as currently constituted and make it even better?

Simple answer: Make a deal with the Mets for Jose Reyes. We have Iglesias to replace him, he's fallen out of favor with the Mets brass to the point he might actually be acquirable, and a Reyes trade is one of the few moves that you would consider parting with Kalish over, although I'd prefer not to. And he will put us over the top from "really good" to "ridiculous."

With Crawford, Reyes and Ellsbury headlining the team speed, and nice secondary baserunners like Pedroia and hopefully Martin, this is not a lineup that can be stopped by conventional means. Can't stop them, can't hope to contain them. With good contact hitters like Pedroia and Youkilis in the middle and lower middle of the order, all that speed is going to turn into runs. That's a lot of speed, and a lot of runs.

There was more then one report saying the Agon to Sox deal was dead, and that it was going to take a Tex sized deal to sign Crawford as well. Also multiple reports stating the Yankees would not go above a 6 year offer. What exactly is your point?

I believe like you stated in the last part of your post. it was a half ass effort to sign him to really only make they Yankees offer him more. Which they did.

Meh. Not sure if he's worth everything that it would take. Not even sure how much money the Sox have left to spend. The still need BP arms and possibly Martin.
