Pfffft.......what a brainfart.

How about Gonzales + Crawford. Period.

Kalish straight up for Gonzo?

It could happen, which is pretty good evidence of how high I am on Kalish. I'd be anxious to keep RK though with Drew in his last year especially if we pick Crawford. Crawford won't play right field. I think if we keep him he'll have proven that was the right decision within the next 2 years.

I have a question.

Who here besides me thinks that trading Kalish+ (without Kelly) for A-Gon and signing Crawford then Konerko makes sense?

Your done with Werth? Welcome aboard.

First off: It's You're which is a contraction between you and are.

Example: You're making assumptions.

Your denotes possession:

Example:

Your ideas make no sense to me.

On point: As i noted a couple posts ago, i am weary of Crawford's lack of discipline, but if that is their target, then instead of bitching and moaning until the end of the universe i may as well get used to the idea of the possible signing because i understand and acknowledge that this FO knows more about evaluating talent than i do, therefore, they must have a reason for him to be their primary target.

Second, in my initial post i said Kalish + people not named Kelly. Kalish straight up for Gonzales would probably cost Hoyer his job.

LOL. Yea, there MUST be a reason why they want Crawford so bad. Gee, lemme think.

Well, the way i see it, there are arguments for both players.

We've gone over these pros and cons in detail, and to me, it's all about how much Crawford is going to cost, and i'm also weary of his lack of plate discipline. These seem like obvious issues that they are (or have) probably debated internally just like we have aired it publically here in the forums.

I simply see both players as fits, because i'm convinced they are, but seeing as they're both fits, who's the better investment?

Therein lies the conundrum.

Dunn deal is disappointing. For 4 years/$56 mill, I feel like this deal would be a pretty good fit for the Sox. I guess they didn't want to deal with the risk of a DH extended into his 34-35 seasons, but still. People that hit 40 bombs and get on base 40% of the time aren't exactly common.

Whats disapointing is that once again we will be getting ungats when it comes to a position player.

WERTH

I AGREE

Also would love to have Bobby Jenks on the Sox. That dude had a .370-ish BABIP and put up a 4 ERA. And he won't cost any picks, there is no relief pitcher on the market I would honestly rather have than him.

You mean like last year when they got Beltre and Cameron, and even though Cameron was injured Beltre went on to post a .919 OPS?

Or 2009 when they traded for V-Mart?

Or 2008 when they traded for Bay?

Or 2007 when they signed Lugo and Drew?

Well you're right. They haven't signed or traded for a significant position player in ages. What is this FO thinking??????

The Globe just reported the last few minutes that Beltre was huddled with Ortiz and other Red Sox players at that Golf tournament in Santo Domingo, and said he wanted to re-sign with the Red Sox as his first choice. So maybe Epstein has the inside track.

If they do sign Beltre, and I think they should if they can, they should still get another RHd bat like Werth to replace VMart. Signing Beltre eliminates the need to trade the farm system (and more) for AdGon.

My guess is Epstein might prefer Beltre, since he doesn't like to trade young talent. Beltre said in Santo Domingo he wants YEARS, so the Sox will have to go 5-6 years.

Cameron=ugats. Cameron healthy only hits 250 career anyway. Not to mention he has beeb awful with the glove for the last idk when did he leave Seattle?

Kalish is potentially a 5-tool player, but NWIH.

If Beltre comes back.....then I HATE the Ortiz deal because it handcuffed us with Dunn. I think AGON is no longer an option in Boston if Beltre signs a long term here. If Beltre does re-sign, then our best option was Dunn for the future at 1B/DH. Let me explain:

Agon is not going to DH. He is a great 1B'man.

Youk is not going to DH. He is excellent at one position and more than serviceable at the other.

Beltre is not going to DH. He is one of the best at his position.

A few years down the road Beltre would be a great fit at DH. Problem is, AGON is available right now possibly, and definitely in the off-season.

Beltre re-signing might be a road block for AGON. Dunn was a natural fit for DH after this season.

Dodgers Non-Tender Russell Martin

By Ben Nicholson-Smith [December 2, 2010 at 11:11pm CST]

The Dodgers non-tendered Russell Martin, making him a free agent, the team announced on Twitter today. Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that they tried hard to trade the catcher first (Twitter link)

It's still possible that the Sox acquire A-Gon even if they sign Beltre, and use the DH as a rotating rest option. Especially with both Beltre and Youkilis getting deeper into their 30s. The problem is having to pay extra for that defense.

I'd like the Sox to pick up Martin anyway, I don't feel that Varitek is really a viable backup/platoon option.

Varitek is coming back.

They reached an agreement for 1 year, 2M today.

That means a couple of things with the Russell Martin rumors. Either Salty is being shopped or the rumors were not true to begin with regarding Martin.

Dunn is not the type of player Theo wants. He's been available a billion times in the past 5 years and never have the Red Sox even shown remote interest. I like Dunn but he was really never in the cards. Even if Beltre resigns then you still can rotate Youk/Agon out of the 1B/DH spot. Plus I believe Theo has shown interest in Fielder in the past and he'd be a natural fit for DH also in the future.
