You have little imagination and apparently no sense of adventure.

Pfffttt...i have a lot of imagination.

The problem is that my fantasies revolve around getting Werth, Crawford, Gonzales, Lee, Putz, Downs, and Bell and spending money like the Yankees. Oh, what a team that would be!

What my fantasies don't revolve around is the possibility of paying over 15 million dollars for a past-his-prime Jeter that, well, pretty much sucks now.

15 million? He'd cost the Sox $20 million.

Would you pay $15 million for him?

I'd give him an unlimited supply of Gatorade, chewing tobacco, bubble gum and condoms.

I think this is a little expensive.

Considering his stats were pretty much identical two years ago when he was 29, I don't see any reason for him to make 3x as much now when he is 31-- especially since he had settled with a mediocre team. But then again, I'd have no problem seeing the Sox pay 2x considering his track record.

EDIT: In case this wasn't clear, I'm talking about Adam Dunn, not Jeter.

Not really. If Dunn was just league average in the field he would probably be looking at a 80M+ contract(Werth/Crawford territory). He actually seems to be a deal to me. I like the 4 years part. Especially if he will go to DH after next season.

DHs other than Ortiz go for about $6 million/year. Ortiz got $12.5 because it is only a 1 year deal. $15 million per year for 3 years seems to be way out of whack for a DH.

Didn't V-Mart just get 50 million to be primarily a DH? Because Dunn is a superior hitter and could definitely fake it in the field for 90 games just like V-Mart would.

Good lord, don't any of you people work?

I just want to sit around all day making posts about the Sox, but I find it very hard between the hours of 8-6 (Pacific Time) due to that whole work thing.

I'm sure I will comment on Jeter's condom usage later...

Hey, the Dominican government is paying for me to study in Michigan, and starting yesterday, i'm on vacation, so i get to post, sleep, eat, lift weights, and generally do whatever i want as much as i want. It's a privilege i've earned. ;)

I had a work ethic when I was your age.

Then what are Crawford and Werth worth-- guys who can really run and field?

I'm not saying he's worth 50 mill, but if i had to assign "value", i'd use WAR and account for the fact that it's usually a bit inflated, and adjust the salaries and years as follows:

Dunn: 13 per, 3 years.

Werth: 15 per, 4 years..

Crawford: 17.5 per, 5 years..

Of course, these are numbers i came up with by "glancing" at their stats and taking age and projected future performance into consideration, however, these are obviously now an accurate reflection of what will happen seeing as i'm not an expert in baseball statistics or talent evaluator, nor do i claim to be one. This is strictly my opinion.

If Dunn's 2010 defense isn't a fluke, 4/60 is a very good price. Of course, if the Sox are looking to move him to DH after next year, his value takes a big hit. 3/39 would be something that I'd love to see the Sox sign him for, if they have future DH plans.

Posted

Jeter will sign with NY for 3/60 , or something like that. he's just upset about ARod's contract. But he has to understand that baseball contracts are crazy, including his old one. Just treat them as crazy and don't try to compare yours with someone else's. Take the money and run. And be grateful it isn't surtaxed--as it should be.

Jeter/Red Sox should be treated strictly as a joke. Maybe a leverage device for Jeter supporters in the media. The Sox don't even need a SS. They do need a catcher and a 3rd baseman. Focus, man, focus.

Posted

Spending money like the Yankees? Hell, every time the Yankees don't win a championship, they are a failure. A complete failure. Wins/Dollar spent--one of the worse teams in baseball. The Red Sox, by the way, are not so far behind. Their wins/dollar sucks, too. Take that, Theo. There are probably a thousand fantasy players who could do a better job. Theo is smart, sure, but he's just a PR hack who got promoted by Lucchino.

Now what about this guy Brian Sabean? Now you're talking.

I wish this would happen.

I agree. And they could get a couple of guys from the Park League to catch and play 3B.

IT'S ABOUT PITCHING, THEO.

Watch it. Not all of us have free time in the late morning and early afternnon out of their own free will and choice.

Not to be an ass or anything, but that's kind of a sore spot. I mean sure it's not like I did a great job setting myself up for credentials, but it's been 30 freaking months, even with just a 2 year degree you'd think I could have found *something* by now. Instead all I'm getting is letters of rejection -- when they have the common courtesy to not just leave me waiting for nothing. Not even an interview in more than 12 months. It's gotten to the point whre I barely even check the paper anymore. I just can't stand the disappointment. Every time. Nothing I put my hope in has ever turned out good for me no matter how hard I've worked for it FOR NEARLY THREE FREAKING YEARS!!!!!!

So don't come in with a "why aren't you working" when there's literally nothing else I'd rather be doing right now.

Arggh.

EDIT: So yeah, sorry to jump on you like that, but it's just an issue that's got a lot of emotional dead weight on it for me.

Every time I finish a task at work, I take a glance. So either I'm really productive, or I take long glances:lol:

Sabean/Giants play in a significantly weaker division and have virtually been non-existent for the last 5-6 years. Sure he's made out well now after having years of high draft picks that have panned out extremely well (netted Lincecum, Cain, Bumgarner, etc.) but Theo would be crucified if Abruey Huff was the best hitter on the team. I can confidently say that the Theo is a much better GM and has drafted as well in the pitching department and light years ahead in the hitting department.

Sorry about the screed above. I know what Example posted was meant in a lighthearted spirit and there was no intent to criticize. It's just that it's really starting to get to me. 3 years is a long time to be stuck spinning your wheels, and seeing everything you try to do to get on your feet turn to ash -- or worse, get completely ignored while the person you're trying to impress doesn't even give you a chance to sell yourself... well, the amazing thing would be if I wasn't somehow frustrated and depressed.

You guys have probably even noticed. I haven't even been up for a good round of arguments with Dipre in months, I just take the disagreement and move on, can't be bothered to hold up my side. I really hope something breaks in my favor soon. I'm well on my way to becoming exactly the last thing I ever wanted to be if things don't change -- the 30+ year old who's still at home with no real prospects of going anyhere or doing anything with his life.

Scratch that. I'm 31. God help me, I'm already there.

The lack of fighting has more to do with me not being around than anything else.

As for the rest of your post, relax, you'll get your break. "Good things come to those who wait". A couple months ago i was heartbroken, jobless and with absolutely no prospects of getting anything whatsoever, then guess what? Got a job, got my scholarship, and here i am, living it up. Some people told me i would never get out of the DR unless i married an American woman, came in a raft or some other stupid s***, and guess what? I kept my head tall, worked hard, and here i am, completing my master's degree and traveling inside the US, living the good life, all paid for by someone else, why? Because i never gave up.

Stay positive, stand tall and understand that in the end, we all get our chance, and so will you, now when you do, grab it hard and don't let go, because life is unforgiving, but even with all the s*** it flings at us, remember to always be thankful since, after all, there are millions of people who would kill to be in your position right now, and you are in that position, not because you are entitled to it, (life owes you nothing) but because you were lucky enough to be one of the fortunate people who got a roof on their head and food on their plate. When the going gets rough, always remember that.

Everybody's been hurting. It took me five months to get a mediocre job with a degree from a top school in a strong field that cost more than some houses. There is just a point where you have to settle, no matter how bad it is. At 31 you have most of your life ahead of you.

Or he could listen to me and start thrashing.
