If i was the red sox i would offer Jeter a 4 year 64 million dollar contract.Make the yankees pay up.lol

You must be a Yankee fan then. That would only help make the Yankees better.

No.It would make them look foolish. They are already looking foolish.

Yes they would look foolish for about 6 months and when the next big story comes along no one will care and the Sox will be stuck paying a broken down Jeter more $ then even the Yankees were willing to offer. How dumb is that? Baseball is not about making people look foolish. Take that crap back to your JR High debates.

You think the yankees wouldnt match the offer? You dont watch baseball then smartass! No way the yankees would allow that to happen.Just make the yankees overpay.Jeter would do well in fenway.I can see him putting up productive stats in3 years of the contract.

Paying Jeter anything over 7M a year is a bad idea. Paying him 16M a year for the next 4 years would be a lot of dead money for the team, d-money.

I agree with you there. I think he has a few good years left. He works too hard to be a good player to not be better than anything we put out there.

Just about the $. and that fact that the yankers would probably match any offer. or maybe not.

I don't want Jeter on the Sox! He is in a STEEP decline and he will only get worse. I will laugh my a$$ off if the Yankees pay him $15 mill per year for the next 3 years. Rivera deserves that money more than Captain Intangibles. I would make a nice offer to Rivera..he could be very useful.

It is sort of funny... Varitek got' date=' what, a 2/10 deal for his intangibles after his decline, and Jeter is looking for 3/45?[/quote']

Jeter was offered 3/45 but that wasn't good enough for him, he's probably looking for 4/80 lol

From the sounds of it, it's probably more like 5/100M.

I can't imagine where he would have developed the idea that this is a realistic expectation to have.

The Yankees set themselves up for this type of struggle and I imagine it will be navigated with a 4 year, 17m deal that will make everyone happy. They are just trying to squash any expecation of near-20m salary.

What is it with the Sox and ex-Royals? Kyle Snyder, Fat Elvis, Tug Hulett, now Parraz.

Parraz is a corner outfielder with a little trickle of longshot upside, will be lucky to make an NHL bench but the light hasn't quite gone out yet. Hes a year removed from a moderately impressive 2009 campaign, but he was old for his level and he's tapered off against age appropriate competition, so counting on him is silly but as a guy who could be "in the mix" or could fill in for a couple days if a guy goes down there's worse options.

Parraz is a nobody, teams make signings like these every day, the only reason you here about it is because Boston sports media will report anything and everything related to baseball

What do people think about Lance Berkman as either a one year option or for a 2-3 year, reasonable-cost signing?

Initially I was repulsed by the idea, given his weak 2010 and having been a Yankee (however briefly). On the other hand, Berkman had an OPS above .896 for 11 straight seasons before 2010, which was a bad year in Houston, his walk year, and it involved switching leagues.

I could definitely see him having a bounce back year and I wouldn't be upset if they overpaid on a one year deal. It would open up salary in 2011 and probably help keep the team competitive. He's a high OBP guy (.409 career), he can play 1B, switch-hit, possibly play a bit of LF in a pinch, certainly moreso than Youkilis.

I'm not advocating him as their big signing but I think his career production probably warrants a strong look when trying to fill in the roster. With, say, Werth and Berkman:

Ellsbury

Pedroia

Youkilis

Ortiz

Werth

Berkman

Drew

Lowrie

Salty/Tek platoon

That is a pretty potent lineup if Berkman hits anything like he has in the past.

2.5 on the Dojjita scale.

He's probably no more of a risk then Lee. SO I find it hard to argue it if they got him on a one year deal. No thanks to multiple years though. 1 year 7-8M would be palatable. The same goes for Lee.

The puma is old and broken down. I don't see him bouncing back. Lee is ok, but probably not going to give you much better production.

Mike Lynch of WCVB had breaking news last night.. says the Red Sox are pressing hard for Crawford. The Sox willing to offer 4 and 5 years deal at $20M per season.

THIS is the guy I want! I think they are going to get Crawford. Tito went on WEEI a few days ago and was very complimentary of Crawford calling him a "Game Changer"..

I like 4 or 5 years. I could look the other way on the 20M per, if they could get a shorter deal.

Holliday got a 7/120. If Crawford would be okay with a 4/80 with a 5th year option, that'd be awesome.

As far as Berkman-- I'd put him as a Plan E, after Dunn/Konerko/Beltre/D Lee.

That has not been corroborated by any other news outlet. I would highly doubt that the sox would forgo offering $8 million extra for VMart, but would be willing to go to $20 million per year for Crawford
