Just about every Sox writer from Amalie Benjamin to Gordon Edes is now confirming the trade and the above details.

Chris Balcom-Miller was the Rockies 6th round pick in the 2009 draft, and was rated the 9th best prospect in the Pioneer League and the 24th best prospect in the Rockies farm system. He was also the Pioneer League player of the year in 2009.

That's sound promising. LOL @ the signature.

Don't know a ton about him, but I hope he can pioneer his way to the big leagues now.

I can't wait to hear from riv about everything that's wrong with him.

Thanks' date=' I had to spice it up a bit. Want to take bets and see how long until Suns notices?[/quote']

If you post in the NFL thread and say something about how much the Browns suck then I bet today:lol:

Loser gets what?:D

I'm liking what I'm reading about Balcom-Miller. Fastball that tops out at 92, big frame, good ground ball rates, works quickly, his walk rate is quite low -- all good portents. This guy should at least be a decent reliever, and if that fastball heats up a bit as he develops he could be a solid SP. The only red flag is that he isn't exactly young for his level but he is about age appropriate, so it's not really a mark against him. if he can get himself to Salem next year he could crack the top 10.

When do you guys think we are going to be seeing Balcom-Miller in the Majors? I don’t know a lot about him' date=' so I couldn’t guess myself.[/quote']

It'll be several years

I wouldn't even pencil him in as a big leaguer until he gets to Salem. He's a good looking prospect but there's too much real estate between him and the show yet.

Delcarmen deserves a fond farewell. Yeah, he was annoying this year and clearly has lost some of his explosiveness. However, he was with the Sox franchise since 2000 when he was drafted (a decade) and with the 'big club for 5 years. In 44 games in 2007 he had a 2.05 ERA and helped this team to a World Series.

Local kid, home grown, overall a productive player who has drawn lots of interest from other teams over the years. Thanks Manny!!

And we ended up selling low on the kid. Nice...

He was very talented, he just couldn't find a way to be consistent year in, year out.

I do like the guy we got back though. Seems to do enough things right that his chances to crack the 'pen are fairly good and I like pitchers who throw strikes.

A year or two ago, they could have gotten a player that mattered in return for MDC. They sold low. It proves the old Branch Rickey truism: it's better to trade a player a year too soon rather than a year too late.

Thanks for everything Manny.

That said, kudos to the Sox for getting a decent prospect in return. The fact they got anything of consequence is a win. Ya they may have sold low, but you can't win them all.

Good luck to Manny, hope he pitches great for the Rox.

He's pitching in the NL, that'll be all he needs to be 'fixed'

Ramon Ramirez has pitched 17 innings in SF and has a 1.06 ERA. Brad Penny is a low 3 ERA pitcher for SF/STL. Both those guys were terrible here

They apply this same principle in the free-agent market and you go bananas.

Just sayin'.
