Yeah, why would they be so stupid as to insult Cliff Lee's wife? I mean, it's fine to shout routine homophobic chants at people in the bleachers, threaten people in visiting opponents clothes, etc., but hurling insults at Lee's wife is unacceptable.

Many Yankee fans are self-important jerks who think they rule the baseball world. I hope this comes back to bite them and Lee signs in Texas.

I doubt it because according to Jacko the Yankees have a 95% chance of landing Lee.

Alex and Lebron were spotted partying and drinking grey goose at a Miami Nightclub the night after being knocked out of the playoffs.

Since they're each worth roughly a bazillion dollars - who do you think pays for drinks?

And I stand by that. Think about how many players who hit the open market sign for less money than is offered to them by another contender. I cannot think of any. I know of some players who shirk offers from rebuilding clubs like Baltimore or Washington in Tex's case. But when it comes between contenders, you typically see them go to the highest bidder

A three-year deal with Girardi is near:

The Yankees and Joe Girardi are closing in on a three-year contract that will pay him somewhere between $9 million and $10 million, The Post has learned.

Girardi would receive a bump from a contract that expires Saturday that was paying him $7.5 million over three years. The raise would make Girardi the fifth- or sixth-highest paid manager in the major leagues.

The sides believe the deal could be finalized Wednesday or Thursday.

I wish it was 5 years or longer.

Your point is a valid one. Typically the FA goes to the highest bidder. Maybe not 95% of the time. But a good amount of the time non the less. Given Texas's current run, new ownership that is willing to spend the big bucks(or so they say), and the proximity to his family(off the top of my head I would wager Texas is one of the closer teams to his Arkansas home) give Texas a better chance at retaining him in this case. In the end, none of us know what Lee wants. We will have to wait and see.

Royals ace Zack Greinke apparently doesn't like the Big Apple.

People close to the hurler tell SI's Jon Heyman that there is no chance he would accept a trade to New York, according to a recent Twitter post by the baseball insider. The tweet doesn't say which New York team the ace would deny.

The ace went 10-14 with a 4.17 ERA in 2010 -- a far cry from his 16-8 record and league-best 2.16 ERA that he posted during his Cy Young season just two summers ago.

As per his partial trade clause, Greinke will hand the Royals a list of eight to 10 teams after the 2010 World Series to which he will not approve a trade.

He hinted at that during the All-Star game last year. Some guys can't handle the pressure of pitching in NY.

“[The environment] had a lot to do with [signing the extension], for sure,” Greinke said at the 2009 All-Star Game. “Now, maybe New York would bother me, but I don’t think anywhere else would bother me anymore. Even though I’m in Kansas City, I’ve gotten used to it a lot more. New York, I still might have trouble in New York. I probably would. But I think almost everyone does.”

He always mentions NY. He never says anything about LA, Chicago, Philly, Boston or any other large market. I'm interested to see who else is on the NT list.

Some baseball people say they would not be surprised to see Derek Jeter seek a six-year deal this offseason. Heyman hears hints that the Yankees are thinking about offering a three-year contract. Hal Steinbrenner said yesterday that negotiations could get messy with Jeter.

He can't be serious? Even the Yankees aren't daft enough to do that. Anything over 3 years is going to be questionable at best IMO. I mean what are they going to do with him? Move him to 3B and have Arod DH full time? LF?

Yeah they'll move Jeter to 3B and have A Rod as full time DH within the next few years, its only a matter of time. I wonder if they'll mention it during his contract negotiations or simply let the manager address it when the time comes. Hal said yesterday they plan to give Jeter a deal that both sides are happy with, he's quite different then how George was.

The Yankees will try to sign Cliff Lee this offseason, but it doesn’t look like they’ll bid as aggressively on the top free agent bats. At this point, they don’t plan to pursue Jayson Werth and Carl Crawford, according to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News.

Not surprising. There was no chance they were going to sign Lee + Crawford/Werth. However, even with all the OF spots and DH spot filled, I wonder what they'd do if they don't get Lee.

A source told Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News that the Yankees aren't expected to pursue either Carl Crawford or Jayson Werth this offseason.

"We are better with Crawford, but at that price?" a team source said. "I'm not sure it's that good of an upgrade." The Yankees already have Curtis Grandson, Brett Gardner and Nick Swisher under team control for next season, so they will likely focus their efforts on upgrading their starting rotation. Of course, we can never say never with the Yankees.

Sources tell Wallace Matthews of ESPNNewYork.com that the Yankees are expected to offer Derek Jeter a three-year contract in the range of $45-60 million.

"The Yankees are going to overpay him," said a source with intimate knowledge of the talks told Matthews. "The question is, how much are they going to overpay him?" If we're going solely on production, quite a lot at this point. But with a player like Jeter, his value in New York goes beyond statistics. According to two sources, no other team has shown interest in Jeter or called the shortstop's agent, an indication that it's a foregone conclusion a deal will eventually be worked out.

The Yankees are flying into Arkansas personally today to meet with Cliff Lee, MLBTR has learned. GM Brian Cashman will be among those in attendance, adds Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

And the full court press is on :D

# Cashman informed Jorge Posada he'll serve as the team's designated hitter next year, report Sherman and his colleague George A. King III. Posada was told to prepare to catch, but the team hopes to find backstops out of Jesus Montero, Francisco Cervelli, and Austin Romine. Posada, who is having knee surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his knee today, is said to be fine with the plan.

# The Post writers add that the Yankees have reached out to the representatives for Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera, in addition to Lee. Add Carl Crawford to that list, based on this tweet from SI's Jon Heyman.

Posted
Age and injury are the reasons Posada couldnt hang. He was never a good catcher, but this yr he was absolutely abysmal. It is time to bring up Montero and one year of Posada catching 60-70 games with the young buck coming up cannot be a bad thing

The Yankees are apparently interested in Jorge de la Rosa. Throws hard, has great stuff and pitched rather well in Colorado. But in NY, he'd be a #3 or lower and not the #2 we absolutely need. He might be our contingency plan, but I wouldnt even think he'd be worth losing the first rounder, as he is a Type A.
