Next pick is Lucas LeBlanc, an OF from Delgado College

Outfielder Lucas LeBlanc is a 6-foot-1, 200-pounder with close to average tools across the board, profiling best as a right fielder for pro ball. He redshirted at Southeastern Louisiana in 2008 before playing the last two seasons at Delgado CC, so he's already 21. He may be difficult to sign away from a Louisiana State commitment

Another RHP Keith Couch

Division II Adelphi righthander Keith Couch has carved up the wood-bat Northeast-10 Conference for three years and went 5-2, 2.24 with 83 strikeouts and 11 walks in 76 innings as a junior this spring. He mixes four pitches but profiles best as a sinker/slider reliever. He works in the 88-91 mph range with his sinker and has touched 93. His slider can be average at times, and his curveball and changeup are below-average but serviceable. Couch has an upright finish to his delivery, but some looseness in his 6-foot-2 frame. Couch has a chance to be drafted inside the top 10 rounds.

We finally got a catcher with Michael Holenveck from a high school in Illinois, and we followed him with Steve Wilkerson, a high school SS from Georgia

Illinois State should be strong in the future as well, after securing up commitments from three of the state's best high school prospects. Catcher Mike Hollenbeck's receiving skills are raw, but he has a strong arm, lefthanded power potential and a pro body (6-foot-2, 210 pounds). The buzz is that the catching-needy Red Sox could take him in the first 10 rounds.

The one weakness in Georgia's prep class was the lack of legitimate middle infielders, as most of the top athletes look more like future outfielders. One who should be able to stay in the infield is Steve Wilkerson, a switch-hitter with good size at 6-foot-2, 190 pounds with plus tools and athleticism. Wilkerson has the arm strength for shortstop if he can harness the accuracy on his throws, and he's an above-average runner, having run sub-6.6-second times in the 60-yard dash at the East Coast Pro showcase last summer. He has potential with the bat as well, though he's a bit raw at the plate. Some scouts see him more as a second baseman at the pro level. It may be difficult to pry him away from his Clemson committment, but the home-state Braves could be the team to do it.

Adam Duke, high school RHP from Utah

Duke's father Dev was killed on July 4, 2001, when a fireworks stand he was operating blew over on top of him during a strong windstorm. Duke has persevered through that adversity, however, and will likely be the highest-drafted pitcher from the Beehive State since Mark Pawelek was a first-round pick in 2005. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Duke looked good in the summer and was on the rise early this spring when he threw 92-95 mph with a sharp curveball and a changeup with some fade. His velocity dipped down to 85-89 late in the year. Some teams thought he might be hurt, while others thought he may have been coasting a bit, or it may have been a dead-arm period. He was back up to 92 mph in his team's first playoff game, twirling a one-hit shutout. Duke throws from a three-quarters arm slot, and his fastball gets late tailing action and jumps in on hitters. He's polished for a high school pitcher and fills up the strike zone with all of his pitches. He's a good athlete and plays shortstop when he's not on the mound. He also works fast and understands the finer points of the game, like setting up hitters and holding runners. Duke is a bulldog on the mound. His brother Brock is a freshman righthander at Utah, and Adam is considered a tough sign away from his Oregon State commitment.

Hell yeah Ranaudo.

Sounds like he has an elbow injury. Might be a TJS candidate. Sounds like he just needs to get healthy. But a huge frame and a huge arm is enough to take a flier on.

don't think it was anything that serious.

LSU kept it under wraps, so tough to tell.

From what LSU leaked out, it was just a slight discomfort when bringing his arm back during the windup, and not when actually throwing.

If the Sox get Ranaudo from '09, he is an absolute steal.

Watching him for the last 2 years has been fun, and we're gonna miss him down here.

We just got Garin Cecchini' date=' who is a 3B/SS from a high school in Louisiana. Ranked 46th on BA's top 50.[/quote']

Man I wanted this guy to come to LSU.

He signed a letter of intent, but I doubt he ever makes it to campus now.

Not surprised. They probably had an agreement prior to the draft. I will be surprised if the sox sign Ranaudo or Workman et al early.

I'll be shocked if Ranaudo doesn't sign.

Pre-Season, he was projected as the best pitcher in the draft.

One mediocre season cost him a LOT of money.

Sure coming back "could" improve his stock if he returns to his '09 form.

Or he could fall out of the early rounds if he repeats '10.

I think Kevin Koziol will have an immediate impact for LSU next year, assuming he gets playing time.

well with the guys we've lost the last 2 years, we got some spots open, and are gonna need people to step up.

8 of the 9 guys who were in the lineup every day for our title run in '09 are gone (assuming Landry and Gibbs sign as expected). As well as all 3 weekend starters from that season.

For future reference and comparisons sake:

Billy Wagner = Kolbrin Vitek and Anthony Ranaudo (if they sign Ranaudo)

Jason Bay = Bryce Brentz and Brandon Workman

4 college players who could have an impact within maybe 3 years. It will be interesting to see how this all works out.

There's a rumor that we may have inked Cecchini at a 1.6M figurre. No link.

I thought he would be a tough sign, so this would be an interesting development.

(if they sign Ranaudo)

I'm confident Ranaudo will sign.

Boston would be a great situation for him.

He'll get decent money, and not be pressured to be a savior, or hall of famer right out the shoot.

Selfishly, I would love to see this kid stay in Baton Rouge another year, but i really don't see that happening.

Ranaudo is counselled by Boras. We know two things....

A. If he signs, he won't sign until mid August

B. If he signs, it will definitely be for over-slot money

Boras has always gotten the most money for his clients with the caveat that yrs of eligibility are worth their weight in gold for the purposes of leverage. You are talking about a guy who has had at least 3 (Crow, Hochevar, and Drew) of his clients forgo multi-million dollar signing bonuses to play indy ball after their eligibility was gone. He's gonna bilk the sox like he always does. The question is, whether Ranaudo thinks he could get lottery pick money next yr or if he thinks he's stay in this range next season. Regardless, I am willing to bet you guys that he signs for at least $1.5 million and the likelihood is that his bonus will exceed $2 million.

BTW, next yrs draft is f***ing LOADED. So even if Ranaudo proves to be completely healthy, he still might slip down due to the ridiculous amount of prospects coming due, mostly from a college standpoint. There were a TON of prep guys selected because the college guys were one of the worst classes in awhile

since you sound like you follow prospects a lot more closely than I do:

Have you heard any early projections for LSU outfielder Mikie Mahtook next year?

He'll be a junior and draft eligible.

He's a big kid with good speed, and a cannon arm.

hits for decent average, and has some power as well.

Of course, I'm biased as hell, so was wondering what an outsider might see in this kid.

scouting report from BA: http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/draft/news/2010/2610184.html

Mikie Mahtook - 6'3" 235

Rising junior OF for the LSU Tigers. Large frame but has shown above average speed which means it's likely he can stay in the OF. Has a plus arm also. Not a high contact hitter and only has average power but projects to hit enough to be an average MLB OF.

Draft status: Likely 2nd - 3rd rounder

Not bad

While I would have loved to have seen a more notable pick' date=' Ramos should been an easy sign considering that we may shell out 7 figures to each of our previous picks.[/quote']

Henry Ramos just signed today

I have heard of Mahtook only from watching some college ball. Havent heard much on the prospect circles, but for the most part, I find out that stuff leading up to the draft and after the second or third round, I only know the guys who are dropping for signability reasons. A lot of the later round guys you find out about post hoc

If he is throwing like he did prior to this season, then he deserves it. He was ranked as the #2 guy in the draft behind Harper prior to his season, then he had his arm trouble. Word is, he is throwing really well this summer.

Don't see why we wouldn't offer up what it takes to get him signed as long as he's again pitching at a high level post-injury. The Sox have used big money to sign guys like Westmoreland and Renfroe in recent drafts.
