I agree' date=' I think we'll have all of our top picks signed, minus say, one of Coyle or Cecchini.[/quote']

chances are, we already have many of them signed but are waiting to announce it

Hopefully that's correct and we do already have most of these kids signed. Especially Renaudo, and Workman. The Red Sox new by selecting them the type of contract they'd be looking for. I can't see them not signing.

From mlbtraderumors...

•Not surprisingly, the Red Sox haven't had substantial talks with Scott Boras about signing Anthony Ranaudo, according to Alex Speier of WEEI.com. Ranaudo pitched well in the Cape Cod League this summer and maintains that he's ready to return to LSU.

I personally think he's going back to college since he could demand top 2 money next yr. Right now' date=' nothing has debunked that theory[/quote']

and most people think he will sign. nothing's debunked that theory either

From what I've heard, most, if not all of the top 10 round picks should sign. (The least likely to sign is Coyle). Also, Lucas LeBlanc (11th round) has made it clear that he won't sign, and will go to LSU.

Hopefully we can at least take Ranaudo and Cecchini and prevent them from going to LSU.

sucks that the only MLB team i follow is pillaging the team closest to my heart.

Latest rumors from Baton Rouge area. a baseball insider says he think Boston will match (or come really close to) the number Ranaudo is seeking.

He's pretty confident Ranaudo will NOT return to LSU

Ranaudo had a minor elbow injury last year.

3 of our projected starters for next year are now having Tommy John surgery and are done for the season already.

so the potential dangers of returning are staring him in the face.

Looks like Ranaudo and Cecchini won't go to LSU, but you'll still get LeBlanc. I'm sure there are other potential LSU candidates that were drafted as well. Besides, it's not like LSU is the only team that loses players to the draft.

oh, I expect to lose a few to the draft every year.

In order to stay at an elite level, you have to go after the top prospects in the country.

Delino Deshields Jr. OF 1st rd. 8th pick Houston Astros signed 2.125 million

Zach Lee P 1st rd. 28th pick Los Angeles Dodgers

Cameron Bedrosian P 1st rd. 29th pick Los Angeles Angels signed 1.116 million

Garin Cecchini SS 4th rd. 143rd pick Boston Red Sox

Kevin Gausman P 6th rd. 202nd pick Los Angeles Dodgers

Lucas LeBlanc OF 11th rd. 353rd pick Boston Red Sox

Jacoby Jones INF 19th rd. 573rd pick Houston Astros

Ryan Eades P 19th rd. 590th pick Colorado Rockies

Tyler Jones P 21st rd. 638th pick Chicago White Sox

Mitchell Hopkins P 42nd rd. 1267 pick Cincinnati Reds

Ty Ross C 46th rd. 1401 pick Philadelphia Phillies

these are the incoming recruits who were drafted and their current signing status.

considering what LSU lost from last season:

position player and line-up, we'll still be solid

but having lost 6 arms (7 counting Ranaudo) from last year due to injury, graduation, transfer, or draft I couldn't even guess who is going to be in the rotation.

LSU desperately needs Ranaudo to return and for the Dodgers to not sign Zach Lee.

Ranado updates

-Seeking $3 mil - http://www.2theadvocate.com/blogs/linedrives/100736914.html

-Sox are probably likely to pony up the money, and the fact that there have been no negotiations is not unusual - http://fullcount.weei.com/sports/boston/baseball/red-sox/2010/08/16/tick-tock-the-latest-on-sox-draft-signings/

According to that article, also looks like Workman may not sign, Coyle might be leaning towards signing, and Cecchini's situation is uncertain until later

Sox did a nice job this year. Really happy about the Ranaudo signing. A bit less the Jacko's 5M estimate though lol

LSU got ravaged yesterday.

The sox went bananas. This is a good draft for them. I especially like the Ranaudo signing and the Workman signings. I think both will fly through the system, assuming they stay healthy

lost 5 highly touted incoming recruits (including a future staff ace and starting QB)

plus 2 established pitchers with remaining eligibility

when healthy, Ranaudo is a stud.

in '08, against kentucky, he struck out 12 or 13 of the 1st 15 batters he faced.

he was a big part of our title run that year.

workhorse who can log a lot of innings.

does need to learn how topitch out of the stretch a little better, which I'm sure minor league coaching will do.

can't wait to see him in the bigs.

*applause*

That looks like a pretty loaded draft. Cecchini and Ranaudo are potential impact players.

Cecchini is a really good signing.

all the reports had him leaning pretty strong toward LSU.

while no where near 100%, we were fairly confident we could get him to stay.

I never really doubted Ranaudo would sign.

LeBlanc was a surprise until this morning.

He's from a lil town about a half hour from here.

talked to a guy that recruited him for another school, and found out he's got a wife (girlfriend?) and a kid already, so he was looking to make some money.

Very satisfied with this years draft. Especially Ranaudo, Workman, Brentz, Coyle, and Cecchini. Ranaudo and Workman could be the eventual replacements for Lackey and Beckett in a couple of years.

I jsut wished we could have gotten Duke or Jaffe as well, will be interesting to see wehre they are drafted in the upcoming years
