I've seen Yaz and other stars booed. There's no mistaking that for fan displeasure. I don't know how each of the fans feel about Drew, but I've almost never heard him get booed, even when he is playing like s***. Your Florida bar and internet experience is far from scientific. If Spud calls him Nancy, it doesn't mean that he doesn't appreciate that he is a great player. Let's all stop whining about poor Drew's lack of appreciation. Boston crowds roundly booed and heckled Ted Williams for years. Unless Drew reads TalkSox or frequents your Florida bars, he's probably completely unaware of this under appreciation issue. It is really such a non-issue. Continually bringing it up is just so ridiculous.

... and yes I was taking a shot of you powers of observation that you have on Gamecast. It's not so weaksauce if it gets in under your skin.;)

And so like..... when was the last time I said ANYTHING negative about Drew? Aside from one botched play of a carom at Fenway in April?

Oh yeah. One night while others were calling him Nancy, I facetiously(sp) used the same word. BFD!

I just don't understand why he is such a lightening rod on Talksox.

I've stated my opinion of Drew on this board. And while I believe redundancy is a sign of intellectual weakness and emotional insecurity, I'll state my opinion of Drew once more for the benefit of new members and veteran blow hards.

Drew is one of the four best RF I've seen on the Sox since 1966. Tony C. (I'd try to spell it but don't want to incur the wrath of VA!), Reggie Smith (yeah, I know, he was primarily a CF... but he played lots of RF), Dwight Evans. In no particular order other than to say Tony C. was the most gifted outfielder (at the time) to come up since Mickey Mantel.

Drew is a "Plus" defensive RF with a "good" arm. Not a cannon like Smith or Dewey.

He reads the ball off the bat and gets good breaks. He makes all the plays that he should and many that lesser player can't.

He is a smart base runner. With "functional" (game) speed. He rarely does anything stupid on the base paths.

He's as close to a perfect match with the Sox's offensive philosophy as you can get (sorry Youk). He works the count and makes contact on HIS pitches. And he gets on base.

Now I don't ooze pre-ejaculate fluid ( as some here apparently do) when he is at bat, but I am always saying "come on Drew, spank one in the gap".

"End of story."

Oh. @a700 -

I don't think that a majority of even the small sample size of TalkSoxers don't like Drew as a player.

I beg to differ. But your poll shall say the truth. Take into consideration, though, that i never spoke of a majority, but there are certainly a considerable number of people who dislike the guy.

Oh. @a700 -

I got you in my posts twice-- once calling Drew "Nancy" which I know you do tongue in cheek and the other about you almost running down Nomar, which I know was just an unfortunate coincidence not borne out of any dislike for Nomar.:D I knew you would see the humor.

Don't try the victim approach. There is no "baiting session". No one had called anyone any names' date=' yet you storm in stirring the pot and calling people "Drew fanboys". You're old enough to know better.[/quote']

Dipre I left for days because of your constant baiting. I like you as a person but you'll say anything to get people to fight with you. You're on ignore. Good bye Dipre.

 I wasn't even referring to this particular person. I was having a decent argument with a700, she jumps in and calls me "Drew fanboy" and all of a sudden i'm the bad guy.

I thik that you are mistaking this talk radio and newspaper topic about Drew as a widespread under appreciation of Drew.

I think it is reflective of it, not a manifestation of it. People undervalue him so the topic comes up regularly. The contract issue may be debatable, but the fact is that his $14m salary is what it costs to have him so the question is always 'is he worth it?' I think the resounding answer is yes, especially for this team in this situation. They are in the playoff hunt year after year so a 3-5 WAR season is worth at least his salary.

It's reflective of a few kooks who call talk radio. They are not reflective of a majority opinion. They get on the radio, because it generates a lively discussion and people tune in to listen. The great majority of Red Sox fans do not agree with the anti-Drew opinion. Again, let's not mix that up with a discussion of his contract. That's a different issue, and a valid issue that has merit on both sides.

A bit late - but I was in the game yesterday. Fantastic seats near Philly dugout - would have cost me a fortune in Yankee stadium of Fenway park - but paid $110 for ticket + preferred parking.

I had no idea that Dice will get almost no hitter - was very close to be part of history.

Tek was playing, he hates Tek.

Just got back from a weekend at my parents camper. No internet, but lots of radio. Listened to both games. Very nice. Days like today are the reason Wake is still on this team. He can always eat innings and save a tired bullpen, and sometimes when he does we get a fantastic game in the process. I love this team.

I guess what I was saying was he did not look very impressive in the beginning. But he really picked up as the game went on.

I left after the blooper hit on 8th on him - was hoping to see the no hitter and was really disappointed the way it ended.

Tek always plays when I go to a game - this was my 10th Sox game ( watched them in Philly, Cleveland and old Yankee stadiums).

2 out of 3 in Philly against the best team in the NL ain't bad. With Ellsbury back leading off and Papi hitting, this club could take off. It's still early.

This team is playing with some attitude... I like it.. The pitching and defense we heard of all off-season is starting to show along with an offense that has been consistently one of the best in the Majors... I also think Beckett is going to be fine..he has shown some flashes of brilliance.. even against the Yankees.. We get his back all square and he will have a very good year, in the meantime Wakes will do the job. If I am the rest of the A.L... I would be pretty worried seeing as the Sox are 2.5 out of Wild Card and have played with poor-average defense, pitching, and a minor league outfield for most of the year. IMO, the Sox are going to prove a point in this series. I will be shocked if the Sox lose more than one game against Tampa. I like our I like Healthy-Beckett, Lester, and Clay over any of the Rays pitchers.. sorry..none of them have EVER won a big game. I like our starting 5 better as a unit.. though Lackey has shown nothing... I like our Bard/Paps 8th and 9th better than theirs.. 1-5 their lineup is great...6-9...not so much... We can beat this team and their 10K fans.. Let's do this!
