I'm a Boston reporter looking for moving or unexpected stories about sports. I want to know how baseball/The Red Sox changed your life. Did it help you through a divorce, help you learn arithmetic when it seemed impossible, connect you to your family, or teach you an unexpected lesson? I'd love to hear your story. Send me an email!

It taught me about message boards before anyone was posting on message boards.

It taught me how to calculate batting averages, however that skill hasn't really proved all that useful in the business world - go figure.

They have taught me that people think the DR is a gigantic chicken coop, when in reality, what we have here is a lot of cows.

So as not to be a total dick to the person looking for honest answers, if i've learned something about life from the Red Sox, it's been from a specific individual generously listed at 5' 8''. Pedroia taught me that hard work and determination can beat talent every time, and can help you achieve any goal you set your sights to.

It has taught me that OBP = (Hits + Walks + Hit By Pitch) / (At-bats + Walks + Hit By Pitch + Sacrifice Flies).

Also the "Red Sox" have been a notable "ice breaker" for me through out my life. One such occasion was the first meeting of the dad of a girl I was dating. The conversation was your typical tense situation between father and the guy who ultimately given the chance, will bang his daughter. That was before the Red Sox came up. Almost immediately Upon finding out I was a Sox fan I was given sort of credibility. Before I knew it we were deep into conversation about the current Sox situation. And after about an hour the girl and myself were leaving to "You two have fun", "if your going to stay out tonight just give us a call to let us know so we don't stay up waiting". A bit stunned by the change of fortune, I took fool advantage and laid pipe to that girl all night. And fully give credit for that night of nights to the Boston Red Sox. True story.

 I laughed pretty hard on that one.

Remember the old Bob and Ray joke? Before they finally won a series --in 03?

Epitaph seen on a local tombstone: "Cause of Death, Boston Red Sox"

That was not funny 10 years ago.

I was lucky enough to see Ted Williams play when I was a kid. In his prime, even. I still remember him at bat at Fenway. Not a creature stirring--not a sound. Everybody holding their breath with every pitch.

And then the swing--like a rattlesnake snapping. Very quick wrists. And the high arching flies over the bullpens into the bleachers. I saw him make the last out in Bunning's no-hitter in '59, when he pitched for Detroit.. Just got under a slider and put the right fielder up against the bullpen. Lucky Bunning.

I remember Doerr the classy HOF 2nd baseman (Pedroia is better). And Dom Dimaggio in CF. These guys could both hit and field. And Birdie Tebbitts, the catcher --later a great manager.

I remember when an obscure hitter named Vollmer came over from the Senators and hit 14 HRs one July. Also that monster rookie year Dropo had. His one and only.

And then there was Parnell and Kinder for pitching. That was it. The Yankees had Raschi, Reynolds, Lopat, Page, later Ford, etc. The difference was always the pitching.

I got into the Red Sox in the 70's listening to them on American Forces Radio as a Kid in Liverpool and now have the ability to (occasionally) travel over and also to watch on MLB ESPN etc. They put me in touch with the entire game. I remember looking up places on maps to see where the strangely named teams came from. I didn't understand it then but it was great listening to them. I suppose they changed my life by being the catalyst for my devotion too the game.

Living in the UK, having the Red Sox to listen to late at night, or very occasionally watch whilst baseball was still shown on terrestrial TV here, got me through the incredibly painful divorce of my parents.

The 2004 team taught me that absolutely anything can happen in sports.

Understatement, cliche, whatever, but That. Was. Unbelievable. I think I actually danced a jig when Johnny hit the grand slam.

The 2010 Red Sox have changed my life. They taught me anything is possible.

Sweep or be swept. The 2010 team motto and one to live by...
