It did not need to be an either/or choice. Getting Lackey did not preclude getting Bay.

We've been over 100 times. It wasn't a matter of money, it was a matter of health and years (if you buy the "propaganda" which will be the basis for the following posts)

That is your forte captain. Make a point, retract, backpedal, insult, then pretend you are better than everyone else. The only thing you didnt do in this thread is show us all your member, then it would be a true Dipre stamped thread

You want to see it don't you?

That coming-out-of the-closet statement just made it a Jacko-stamped thread.

Most men who flash their penis to random people online have some sort of repressed memory or childhood abuse experience that they are trying to overcompensate for. We're here for you champ.

This like the old days with the Sox, no team chemistry, 25 guys with 25 cabs, but that is to be expected when you bring in guys like Beltre who are playing for their next contract and don't want to pick up and stand up for their teammates. There are just to many new guys, too many issues right now. Its not that a bunch of guys like Beckett, Lackey, Ortiz, etc. are under performing, but there are a lot of issues in the clubhouse- Victor and Dice-K disagreeing, Lowell saying he wants to be released, Ortiz complaining. Its just not a good situation.

the sox arent winning 110 games, so we wont find out.

And good pitching does shut down good hitting, but the sox seem to lie down when they face a good pitcher much more than they did in the past.

I wanted to address this in full, since Mr. Bias couldn't back up his position, and got pissed when confronted about it:

Couple of points:

Baseball Reference categorizes pitchers by three echelons "Power", "Average", and "Finesse".

Power pitchers are guys who are in the upper echelon of Walks + K's, average are, well, average, and Finesse rank near the bottom.

Usually, by these standards, power pitchers consist of the upper echelon of pitchers, and so forth, and while the rankings aren't perfect, the following is the Red Sox' performance against each type of pitcher:

Power: .777 OPS, 121 sOPS+

Average: .740 OPS, 102 sOPS+

Finesse: .870 OPS, 130 sOPS+

(sOPS+ is used to measure OPS in relation to league OPS instead of individual OPS, in which case, stats against Average and Power pitching would come out below league average.)

Also, when looking at the Game Logs, i found that the Sox had hammered the following pitchers who were in the upper third of the league in ERA (at the time):

CC Sabathia

AJ Burnett

Zack Greinke

Phil Hughes

Francisco Liriano.

As well as performed "well" against several others:

James Shields

Brian Matusz

Colby Lewis.

The Sox have performed well offensive in basically every situation presented to them this year. The offense started out inconsistent but has really clicked since late April. Saying they "lie down consistently" against good pitching is a flat-out lie. Cue backpedal and sidewinding.

Lackey doesn't seem bothered by his pitching, he almost seems like he is indifferent to his lack of command. Hey, he secured that new deal already. As someone already said, he's Beckett-like. 4 more years after this!

Farrell, however, is bothered by the lack of command in Lackey's pitching... as should Lackey.

Lackey has been a bust so far. He has pitched through a quater of his starts and his era is over 5, I guess that is what 18 million per year will get you. As I said in the last winter, be weary of Jon Lackey. Since 07, his number of starts and innings have gone down, his ERA has risen, and he had injury problems. The guy def. isn't what he was in 07, and the Sox def. gave him way to much money. I'd rather given the money to Bay and kept him around.

Bay's sucking worse than Lackey.

Bay would be doing much better in Boston.

Conjecture. We don't know the reason why he's struggling. May be the contract, may be physical, may be a glitch in his swing. Citi may have to do with some of the decline of his power, but what about on the road? Dude has one home run.

Posted
Is he feeling the pressure of his contract? He played in Boston before with the pressure of replacing Manny Rameriz in left field, so I don't think that is an excuse. Moving from Fenway to Citi Field has to effect his power numbers. Then of course just playing for the Mets has a detrimental effect for its players haha
