If we could secure Napoli and play him 82 games at catcher and the other games at DH and play varitek the other 82, that might work.

I feel like this team is about to put together a nice string of wins

What kind of reception do you think Manny will receive this weekend?

He's going to get mixed reactions. The people who realize how huge he was in the first two world series titles this team has won in decades will clap for him. But then again, they probably would have won one or two more if he hadn't left. There will definitely be some fans who give him hell. I expect a very similar reaction to that of Damon, except with batteries instead of dollar bills.

Manny was more liked during his time here than Damon was though

I disagree. During the end of his time here, Manny was a real pain the ass, and every member of the team (except for Lugo) voted him off the island.

Alright folks. I was one of the guys who was ready to reload this team in early May and now I've been back on the train for about a month and this team looks really good.

They have been hounded by injuries but have had honorable fill-ins. At this point they are tied for the Wild Card and only one game behind the Yankees. They just look like they're the best team against nearly every opponent right now.

Despite all of the concern about their offensive woes, the Sox have the highest SLG in baseball (.468), and the 2nd best OBP (tied with the Braves at .353), giving them the highest OPS. As if to support the correlation, they are also leading baseball in runs with 390. There are 7 teams who have scored 100 fewer runs than the Sox at this stage in the season. That's while missing their leadoff hitter, starting CF, and using a number of pretty marginal fill-ins more than anyone anticipated.

I'd say the "fill-ins" have been pleasant surprises (Nava, McDonald) while the "regulars" have been "marginal" (Hermida, Cameron).

Nava might make Cameron more expendable when Ellsbury comes back. Cameron could have his surgery and be ready for the playoffs. Regardless, I watched the game last night and his swing is very nice.

Do you ever shut the f*** up?

They also start every year winning a bunch of games early and they sucked in April. Stop talking like you know when the team will be hot/cold.

On a side note:

The Sox are first in Runs scored, first in SLG%, first in doubles, second in OBP, second in Home Runs, first in OPS.

Not bad for a team that wasn't going to get on base very much or hit for much power./Jacko.

The Sox are on pace to score 889 runs, which is more than 2009 by a comfortable margin. Looks like the "no holes in the lineup" strategy is working wonders, yet again contrary to Jacko's assesment.

On the pitching front:

The Sox team ERA is down to a respectable 4.22, with a 4.24 starters' ERA.

Son what's the limit if this team gets completely healthy?

I just know that your team is on fire right now, and it won't last. You needed to go 24-8 just to get within 2 games in the loss column of NY. Meanwhile, the Yankees just keep plugging along without much utility from 2 of the best hitters in the game in Tex and ARod. You look at NY, and you see one guy surging in Cano, 2 guys playing slightly over expectations in Gardner and Swisher, one guy at expectations in Posada, and a bunch of guys well below expectations. Jeter, Granderson, Tex, and ARod, 2 of those guys locks for the HOF and one more possible if he keeps it up in Tex. They are gonna hit, it's only a matter of time. NY has gotten it done on the pitching end of things. Sabathia, Hughes, and Pettitte have been 3 of the best pitchers in the AL this yr. Burnett has been hot and cold, but has given us innings and Vazquez has been one of the best pitchers in the game since May 12th. So long as the pitching stays healthy, this team is gonna surge, expecially when the hitting comes together.

So, no, I won't "shut the f*** up." I continue to maintain my ambivalence in the Red Sox regular season mostly because I think they are playing way over their heads and will eventually come down to earth AND because I am certain that this Yankee team makes the playoffs.

Oh, and your antics are starting to drive people from the board. How bout you "shut the f*** up," or maybe the mods can do it for you

that is exactly what I said. I highly recommend reading what I actually posted instead of taking something out of context and making an incorrect statement. But feel free to stay on topic for once

New table:

Red Sox hot streak: "Your team is hot right now, but it won't last".

Yankees hot streak: "This is the way they're supposed to be playing"

Red Sox cold streak: "It was bound to happen, they were playing way over their heads"

Yankees cold streak: "We're just going through (Insert excuse here) it'll sort itself out.

Again, i speak for the rest of the board when i ask you to shut the f*** and stop making your s***** remarks about the Sox every chance you get.
