I just know that your team is on fire right now' date=' and it won't last. You needed to go 24-8 just to get within 2 games in the loss column of NY. Meanwhile, the Yankees just keep plugging along without much utility from 2 of the best hitters in the game in Tex and ARod. You look at NY, and you see one guy surging in Cano, 2 guys playing slightly over expectations in Gardner and Swisher, one guy at expectations in Posada, and a bunch of guys well below expectations. Jeter, Granderson, Tex, and ARod, 2 of those guys locks for the HOF and one more possible if he keeps it up in Tex. They are gonna hit, it's only a matter of time. NY has gotten it done on the pitching end of things. Sabathia, Hughes, and Pettitte have been 3 of the best pitchers in the AL this yr. Burnett has been hot and cold, but has given us innings and Vazquez has been one of the best pitchers in the game since May 12th. So long as the pitching stays healthy, this team is gonna surge, expecially when the hitting comes together. [/quote']

Yes, there are certainly silver linings for the Yankees and their recent play (ie the Sox picking up games on them). And, it's unrealistic for Sox fans to expect a continuation of the current pace. The problem I have with this post isn't its accuracy, but its inconsistency when the coin is flipped. You had the Sox dead in the water, and the Yankees were a 110+ win team back in early May by your estimations. You always find the silver lining for the Yankees, and hardly ever do for the Sox. You always find a reason why success won't continue for the Sox, and hardly ever do for the Yankees. It makes it very hard to take you seriously, even when your points are reasonable.

What I find, and I'm sure other Sox fans will agree, comforting about the Sox recent play isn't an expectation of the current pace, but where they are in the overall (ie the combination of their awful April and their hot May/June). They don't have to continue winning 75% of their games for Sox fans to enjoy the team. Carrying on at their current .606 should suffice and keep them in the playoff picture.

So, no, I won't "shut the f*** up." I continue to maintain my ambivalence in the Red Sox regular season mostly because I think they are playing way over their heads and will eventually come down to earth AND because I am certain that this Yankee team makes the playoffs.

Oh, and your antics are starting to drive people from the board. How bout you "shut the f*** up," or maybe the mods can do it for you.

At this point, nobody cares about your concern, because it's pretty easy to see it for what it is, bluster. Whether you are concerned or not, the Sox will do what they do, which all anyone really cares about. Hell, in some respects, I'd prefer you didn't have concern because it will make all that much more painful if you are wrong.

As for calling for a ban, and we've been down this road before, you aren't speaking from a credible position. Not with this being your 3rd name you've posted under, and the fact that you really only come here to rub our noses in the "greatness" of everything Yankee. Give it a rest.

I continually laugh that people get worked up by Jacko's antics. He is clearly a biased Yankee fan that will use facts, but slander them with arbitrary personal opinion. He has always been this way. I really don't see a reason to get upset with it. He makes conversation. If your not intelligent enough to battle his points, then that is your own fault.

Hi guys, been awhile since I posted. Been busy with our season and my new puppy "Beckett" lol.

I've been follwing as best I can. Not as much as I have the last couple years, but I'm not completely out of touch. Couple quick things. For all the Beltre haters out there, ha ha. to all the fools who lost there minds when the Sox started out slow and TB took off like a rocket. How anyone could believe TB could keep that pace all year is beyond me. Here we are in late June and only a handful of games separate the three contenders in the AL East. Just as most of us expected it to be. So next season let's not jump to conclusions or off of cliffs after 30 games.

All in all I think the Sox have a competitive team as stands. I don't believe they need a big move to set up for the 2nd half run. Maybe a few minor tweaks here and there, some BP help, maybe an OF if things don't get healthy for the current group.

Hope to be around a bit more, but even though I may not be posting much, I still try to swing in and catch up on everything. Cheers guys and go Holland!!!!

It's not a handful of games. It's literally half a game.

Ya I know, my phrasing wasn't good, but you obviously get my point.

I haven't been able to keep up with everything, how much crow have you been consuming around here for Beltre? :D I'm sure the others were anything but gentle.

I've been keeping my head down for the most part on Beltre. I have been amazed by his turnaround. I had no idea he had that in him.

Career Road OPS: .831 Yeah, he's hot as hell right now (.899 OPS), but he's always been able to hit. It's the defense that has really surprised me.

Some more interesting tidbits:

Career Road OPS .831

2010 Fenway OPS .835

2010 Road OPS .988

He's hitting as expected in Fenway, but he's killing it on the road.

Probably best

I thought he would hit well, similar to Lowell's turn around when coming to Boston. But I didn't think he hit as good as he has. His knee on the ground HR's are hysterical

It feels like this team is perpetually on the cusp. I can't decide if they're on the cusp of falling out of contention or on the cusp of leaping into first for the rest of the season, but they're definitely on the cusp.

The sox offense seems to be playing over their head a bit. Papi with an .888OPS, Beltre with a .927OPS and Youkilis over 1 seem to be a bit high, albeit not completely unreasonable. Tek over .900 and Nava hitting .350, OTOH, are unreasonable to expect.

The question will be, when Ellsbury and Beckett come back, will they defray the inevitable drop in production the offense will see? They probably will. Regardless, I thought the sox were a 90-95 win team and I think they'll hit that

Troll! Troll!

I have to say that's a pretty fair assessment for a Yankees fan. No one would have expected this team to be hitting this well given our injuries and our current starting lineup.

The real question is how many games you expect the Yankees to win. 300? ;)

Papi and Youk don't belong on that list, while Beltre is hot, he's always been a good hitter. Tek and Nava really don't matter much. I think you're reaching a bit. I don't think there will be much drop off when our OF comes back healthy.

Boras must be feeding Beltre his special brand of Wheaties. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to extend him before the season is over. Though Boras may not want that.

I think the offense will be OK. They've been lucky to get production out of McDonald and Nava. Papi still seems to blow hot and cold. Hasn't done much lately. They need to get Ellsbury back soon. Cameron has been a total washout so far. But it's far from playoff time. I see Youks is back in the lineup tonite, and Wake is getting bombed--which has been the norm lately. Time for him to hang them up.

I wouldn't touch Beltre with a ten foot pool this offseason, guy is classic contract year guy who doesn't live up to the hype of the next contract.

The bullpen will be the teams downfall, I've been saying this all year. Papelbon has been trending downward for the past 2 years, I'm glad everyone else is finally seeing that. The guy is no loner an elite closer, nor has he been for quite some time. Oki isn't fooling anyone anymore, Delcarmen had his nice stretch and now he's imploading. Bard is gonna be thrown out there way too much this year, he'll me might have to be the closer. The Sox need their starts to go at least 6 innings every night, we can't have multiple scrubs out there. What we need is an 8th inning guy to take the load off of Bard or hell even a closer if we see Paps continue to melt down like he has been.

i'm not worried about the offense, we lead the majors in runs scored and OPS and there are plenty of players who have been hurt like ellsbury and cameron or got off to slow starts like again cameron and drew. i'm more concerned about the pitching

i think beckett getting healthy and lackey pitching more like his career average is the difference between the red sox being a 90 win team or a 100 win team

You can say that for just about anyone in a contract year these days. In the steroid era (we're still in it folks--they just don't talk about it) and with the dollar stakes so high. Funny thing, the GMs still keep throwing money at these guys.

On the bullpen, I don't know how those guys hold up making an appearance every couple of days--or even consecutive days at times. Appearances are what counts, not innings, since half the pitches are thrown in the bullpen heating up. Fact is, relievers just don't hold up. You can only have a few years of 60+ appearances before you go downhill. That's the problem with all these 1-inning appearances that are the norm these days.

another injury, another win. this team has been remarkably resilient. even with all the injuries we're on pace to win 98 games, if we could ever get healthy we could easily win 100+ games

here's some food for though. with that win, the red sox are 16 games over .500. since their 4-9 start, they have gone 43-22 to lead the majors with a .662 winning percentage. and everyone knows that the red sox lead the majors in runs scored and ops, but there's also this trend to consider

april - 4.61 era

may - 4.29 era

june - 3.91 ERA
