I have had it with Ortiz and Beltre.. Ortiz is f***ing TOAST..he cannot catch up to a 93 MPH fastball right down the gut...he is useless to the Red Sox. Mike Lowell can f***ing hit...and play defense BETTER than Beltre..he may not have the range Beltre does...but he f***ing makes the plays when he gets to them..and seriously..how much range do you really need to be a 3-Bagger? Mike still has the quick reflexes.. Theo once again...f***ED up.. I am growing sick and tired of his abyssmal failures.

Ballsy post. I agree.

Surely not $9.mil worth. Dump him and start Lowell.

He showed what he was worth in Seattle: bench player (2-3 mil).

Well...Beltre's frustrating but dumping him to start Lowell is a pretty terrible move too. I don't trust Lowell to stay mobile or healthy for the whole year.

We've got nothing to lose.

Its funny, after you said that, he gets a hit, and they mention he's the offensive player of the week.

Not true.

What's more likely? Lowell gaining range post-surgery and at advanced age, or Beltre playing it cleaner in the field? He's a .956 career fielder playing to a .926 before tonight's game. Lowell is a statue and that isn't changing. If you put the statue in, you give up the possibility to improve, and that's losing something.

Except flexibility and perhaps games.

There is no doubt in my mind that Lowell is better than Beltre. He's not as quick, but he's still a better fielder and hitter.

Did Renteria ever come out of it?

Ding, Ding, Ding! WE HAVE A WINNER!

He is exactly what Lugo is..a bench player. I firmly believe Theo thinks he is smarter than every other GM out there. He thinks he can actually turn garbage into gold. He signed Lugo based on basically, a good 2nd half of a season...Then signs Beltre off a Great 2009..wait..he STUNK in 2009! Theo makes more blunders than good moves IMO. He has gotten by due to the enormous resources he has at his disposal. He is like a .300 hitter, he can fail 7 times out of 10 and still look like gold because the Sox can afford a couple of bad contracts per year. Were Theo the GM of the KC Royals he would have been fired a long, long, time ago. Luckily we can get rid of Beltre after this year and bring in a real 3rd baseman....though I believe we already have one on the bench. I would be pissed too if I were benched for a guy coming off his worst Major League season who now has 5 errors in April.. I would walk right into Tito's office and say "What the f*** Tito?"

In total, the signings of the "New guys " have really been a disappointment. Beltre has been far less than what was expected to date. The Sox have options at third. If Lowell "fails", move Youk over and start VMart at 1st. Bring up Brown if needed.

Blah blah blah...

why the f*** are they stealing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NEVER MAKE THE 3rd OUT AT 3rd BASE! Nice move Tito!

Why did Beltre not slide into 3rd? Is he on drugs? Seriously..he is f***ing absolutely horrific out there!

I don't know that I have a dog in this fight, but...

Last 3 years Fielding % Lowell: .961, .967, .966

Beltre: .958, .964, .959

Beltre gets to balls that Lowell cant, fielding% is a misleading stats at times.

Nobody is arguing that Mike Lowell doesn't have surer hands. The problem is he can't move very well. Beltre kills him in range, so while Beltre will botch more plays, he'll stop significantly more that Lowell doesn't touch.

This isn't an answer.

What's more likely?

From what I have seen of Lowell this year, he is more mobile than he was last year. And his hands are exceptional, as always.

As far as Beltre goes, who knows? Like Renteria and Lugo, he has fallen into an early fielding funk here. Will he come out of it? Personally, I doubt it. He will press harder and harder to prove himself and it will have the same result as Renteria, in my opinion.

That's as good an answer as I can give right now.

But he makes his errors on balls hit right at him.

I can see that. Like I said, at this point I don't know what the answer is. To me, it just seems Beltre is just in a funk, but I didn't get to see him play very much in Seattle. Maybe he gets nervous around small crowds :dunno:

I like Theo. Brookline homeboy and Ivy League education and all. But he is not infallible.

There's certainly an arrogance on display when it comes to these signings.

Sometimes I wonder if they even personally scouted some of these guys.

Just so you know, fielding percentage means nothing on Talksox. UZR is where it is at.

Get with the program.;)
