I wanted Cliff Lee instead of Beckett. I was in the minority. Maybe not anymore...

I was basically ridiculed on site for displaying the same ideas.

Where's Doiji and his team now?

Is Dojji now Japanese? Doiji?

Are you blind?

Deflection.

This doesn't make the hypocrisy you've displayed go away.

Hypocrisy with regard to opinions and discussions about sports. What the hell are you talking about? You take yourself too seriously.

Beckett is pitching like crap again and all of a sudden he is hurting again, "back ailling."

I was really bummed that Theo did not wait to resign him. I really, really hope it does not bite the Sox in the ass.

Hooray irony!

News and notes: Beckett will miss start

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff May 11, 2010 03:10 PM

Josh Beckett's medical tests came back OK from Mass General, but Terry Francona decided that Beckett will miss Friday's start vs. Detroit.

"Beckett went over and got examined this morning. I think we wanted to make sure that everything muscular was ok, which it is. That's good. He's got a spasm in his lower back. Just have to let it relax a little bit. In all likelihood he will not pitch on Friday. Because of Wake going tomorrow with a day off (Thursday), we can go stay right in order. Everybody still gets an extra day," Francona said.

So it would be Clay Buchholz, Jon Lester and Daisuke Matsuzaka in Detroit.

Asked whether Beckett might be plugged in before his next start comes up, Francona said, "I think it's a possibility (slip him in before his next time comes up). We don't know. He could show up tomorrow and feel great. But what we don't want him to do is pitch with a sore back and exaserbate something."

Today would have been Beckett's second side session after his disasterous outing vs. New York. Beckett also hurt his back while taking BP with the other pitchers on Monday.

They wouldn't want to do that. He could stink.

Once again we are reminded that you can never have enough pitching.

Thank Gawd for Wakefield.

Or would you prefer Paul Byrd?

Is he available? I certainly wouldn't mind him sitting in the wings, especially considering how he pitched in 2009 after playing nothing but t-ball all summer. Unless Julian Taveras is still looking for work?

That's why it's important to have a decent depth beyond the 5th starter. This particular Beckett injury doesn't sound very serious but in a typical year, anywhere from 15-30 starts are made by 6th, 7th and 8th starters. Last year, we had 11 different guys make starts for us and of those 11, Lester Beckett and Buchholz were the only ones better than league average.

The team would be a lot less boring with Julian Tavarez on it.

I don't understand why all the pitchers don't bitch slap baserunners in spring training and roll the ball to first base.

Josh Beckett will throw a side session tomorrow and if that goes well will face the Yankees in New York on Tuesday.

He's got back issues and is going to miss another start. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't go on the DL. With the exception of 07, it seems like every year its something with Beckett. He is either hurt, can't pitch well the whole season, idk. It just seems like he is a very overrated regular season pitcher to me

It doesn't just seem that way, it is. But you've summed it up perfectly..

Beckett going for the sox tonight trying to be the ultimate stopper. If he doesnt win tonight, then I think the general team psyche is just gonna crumble. NY is a 100 win team. TB is looking like they are on their way there too. Boston is trying to prove they belong. But having lost 5 of 7 to NY and all 4 to TB, they arent exactly showing it. If the sox win tonight, they go on a run, like a 7-3 run through the next 10 games against good teams. If they lose tonight, IMO, they slump through the next 10 games and are effectively out of it by June 1. I know that the saying is momentum stops with the next day's starting pitcher, but in this instance, I think it isnt true. Tonight, in YS, vs CC with a gimpy Beckett returning, the sox are essentially putting their season on the line.

They could lose tonight and go 7-3 the next 10 games or lose tonight and go 3-7.

Good, seeing Beckett hit hammered around by the Yankees is something I don't want to watch again. Sox were a bit premature in giving him that extension. Locked into 4 more years of injuries, under performing, and disappointment, can't wait.
