A lot of credit for Scutaro advancing to second when noticing the outfielder was backpedaling on that fly ball. Little things like that don't show up in the box score but is ultiimately why the Sox won in the 12th right there when they did.

I think this series has me more worried than the last one. The Sox are much closer a team to the friggin Rangers than to an elite team. I mean, hell, the Sox were awarded a run last night or else they'd have been down going into the 9th.. The game winning hit would have been caught in any other ballpark. Then tonight Beckett gets roughed up again and, AGAIN, if it weren't for a bad call at home, the Sox would have entered the 9th down by a run. If it weren't for the Umps, the Sox could just as easily be on a 7 game losing streak.

I love the whole Darnell McDonald thing and it's been an awesome couple of games, but I'm not one bit sold on this team as it looks right now. VMart scares me behind the plate. :(

If our pitchers and hitters were performing anywhere close to there ability, I might be worried. But when Jon Lester, Josh Beckett and John Lackey are giving up 7 runs every time out and Kevin Youkilis, JD Drew and Victor Martinez have a .650 OPS, it's hard to be worried about us not winning games soundly enough.

True. This was terrific baserunning.

Beckett's really earning that extension. Soooooo glad we made him earn it.

Yeah, it's not like he dominated in the last start as was darn good before that as well.

Yoooouk!! Hey Jacko was this a fluke win also?

I kept telling everyone at work, hey guys patience, they are due for a good run. Darnell McDonald (Big Mac) changed that :)

Lets see.

They win on Tuesday due to umpire error and a 2 run gift from a typically solid defensive OFer

They win on Wednesday because Julio Borbon doesnt touch home plate on a play that he beat a throw.

They were sloppy wins, but they are wins nonetheless. But don't pretend that you didnt have help.

ANd we gave away Friday night's game in several ways and saturday's game was gift wrapped for Tampa as well.

This was the first thing that came to mind for me when Jacko started off on his "fluke" win tangent yesterday, but I didn't feel like entering the discussion. Now that you have, I'd like to add some input.

This is where any defense of Jacko's motives fall apart. There are games teams should win, but lose, like the first two against TB. There are games teams should lose, but win, like the first two against Texas. Over the course of a season, these things tend to balance out. Of course, from Jacko, we'll only hear about the latter.

... and good teams usually win more of those gift/fluke games than they give away.

I agree with most of this.

However, I do think Jacko's point might have been that even though the Red Sox have won a couple games, because of how the games went, it isn't exactly a sign of the team turning it around. I'm not saying I agree with this, but it's a reasonable stance to take.

But it helps them tread water until they turn things around.
