I wanna know who is your favorite Red Sox player and Why? It can be from the past, Like how everyone loves Pesky.

Mine first favorite player happened to be Mo Vaughn. After his departure I became a big Trot Nixon fan.

Currently I am a Huge Dustin Pedroia. I love the grittiness of how he plays and his jersey is never white.

Just finished reading his book and it was really cool to read.

I loved Mo Vaughn too. Growing up I guess he was my idol (lets ignore the DUI's and the trips to the Foxy Lady) and I met him on several occasions. Then I guess I liked Damon for the first couple years he was here and then Arroyo became my favorite. White man with cornrows, gotta love it. Then he gets traded and I guess my favorites became Lowell and Bay once he came to Boston. Right now I don't really have a favorite player on the roster.

Manny Ramirez. No matter how much s*** everyone talks' date=' he was the man.[/quote']

Manny had a great career in Boston from 2001-2007. .313/.412/.594 plus 254 HRS and 800 RBIS. and .312/.411/.588 including his 2008 time. I forgot on the bottom of baseball reference it had stats with each team they were on.

The correct answer is Pedro Martinez.

He was the first person to actually get me excited about pitching.

117-37 W-L He was one of the Best pitchers we have ever had.

I've always liked the guys who didn't start with a ton of talent and managed to earn their way on the roster. Guys like Brian Daubach for example

Also, I don't care how much of a jerk he was or that he wound up a Yankee, I liked Wade Boggs a lot, ditto for Clemens.

I also have a bit of a soft spot for Timmy Wakefield. He has a great year this year, he could win #200.

Yaz - The absolute best defensive left fielder I ever saw. And a tremendous hitter in his prime.

He was also the second best defensive 1st baseman I ever saw.

Who was the best first basemen defensively you've seen?

When I was younger Mo Vaughn and Nomah.

Now it's Lester/Beckett. Lester is a beacon of hope for some many people suffering from Cancer. And I have followed Beckett ever since he was drafted by Florida, and actually got to watch him come up through the minors. I was ecstatic when the Sox dealt for him.

George Scott.

Not even close. I've never seen anyone play 1st base better since.

Mine is Jacoby. I've not been watching Baseball for very long and I don't get to see very much of it but every game I see this guy seems to do something really sweet.

He was wrapped up like a mummy towards the end, and he still went out and did whatever he had to do. Just special, the face of the team for a long time. Amazing, quick hands, over 400 HRs - at his size with the archaic training they did that's some serious bat head speed.

I would love to see what he and some of his peers would have been able to do with access to today's exercise and diet science.

Yaz was almost single-handedly responsible for the rebirth of the franchise. 1967 set the franchise on a path of sustained and it has never turned back except for the momentary lapse when Butch Hobson was the manager.

It's interesting to me that most of the members have mentioned only players from the last 15-20 years.

No Doubt Pedro was the best pitcher I ever saw play for the Sox. It's just a shame more people here never saw Yaz play. Add up all the big plays and clutch hits made by Mo Vaughn, Manny, and Papi, and you just begin to approach what Yaz accomplished during his career.

Frank Malzone is my all-time favorite Red Sox. My avatar says it all. When I began to follow the team, Ted Williams was in the twilight of his career. However, I did get to see both of them play in the second All Star game at the L.A. Coliseum on 08/03/1959. Malzie even poked a homer to the short left field porch off of Don Drysdale. When Ted retired, it was Yaz and then Tony C. They could make the dullest game a thrilling spectacle. Yaz was simply amazing.

I really wish I could have seen Yaz play. He was my Dad's favorite player and he was responsible for a rebirth of the franchise when no on gave a damn about the Red Sox.

My current favorite player is Youkilis though. I followed him in the minors, I saw his first major league game (in which he hit a home run) and I've always appreciated how he was good at every aspect of the game. Back when it wasn't fashionable to tout range stats, I was pointing out how Youkilis was an elite first baseman according to UZR. He's also always done very well in baserunning stats (Bill James keeps them) and he's always been good at hitting with runners in scoring position. He's a hard nosed player who does everything right. Plus, his facial hair is entertaining.
