if a girl is going to make it it's not going to be as a knuckleballer. Knuckleballers have enough trouble cracking a big league roster as it is. it's going to be some female freak of nature that can do something most of the elite male baseball players can't do, like throw 100, or run freaky fast, or be a super-slick fielding middle infielder, or hit for insane power.

There may eventually be average female baseball players, or female baseball players that are not superstars, but in order to get the league's attention, the first one is going to have to be a flat out undeniable talent, that's just a fact.

I think I agree with this, but I will say, it would be pretty awesome if Eri could pull it off. I do not like that she is only 5'1". I think that is going to be a huge problem for her.

Why not? If she's better than all other knuckleballers, why wouldn't she have a better shot at making a team?

Mary Rowengartner's floater proves that female pitches work out sometimes.

Throwing a knuckle ball is one thing, can she get to a bunt and gun a runner out? I think her defense has to be considered too.

Does size matter really, I mean we have a 5'7" 2nd baseman? If she can deal the knuckleball like wake or better she could find her way into baseball.

After Gaedel the shortest ever was 5'3". Here is a list of players that were 5'3"

Yo Yo Davalillo, Stubby Magner, Harry Chappas, Tom Morrison, Bill Finley, Bob Emmerich, Mike McCormick, Yale Murphy, Lou Sylvester, Cub Stricker, Dickey Pearce, and Frank Shannon.

so a physically deficient girl is going to do something that only supreme male athletes can do? That just makes no physiologic sense. This is the only way a girl is going to make the bigs, as a knuckleballer. They dont have the same amount of testosterone which allows you to build muscle at a more rapid pace, so therefore, they just cannot build up the same way. Hence, they wont be able to perform those crazy freak of nature things you talk about. The above post is just awful

YOu are the type of person that would have never thought Pedroia would have made the majors because he was to small. Look at David Wells, Fatass, was he really that supernatural. TIm Wakefield is his 75 mile an hour fastball supernatural.

if she can pitch and stay healthy why not give her a chance. Just because women don't have high testosterone levels like some players such as A-rod or Sheffield or Giambi. It is not like she is going have to hit.

I think this is there ONLY way into the majors.

They cant pitch good enough and although some of those college softball bitches can hit a ton they are still facing women pitchers...Outside of a sprinter used as a pinch runner a Knuckleballer would be the only other way in and that would take an act of God.

although nothing like breaking the color barrier it would indeed be a landmark day.

There are enough male knuckleballers that I don't think this is really an "in" for women.

Any woman wanting to crack MLB needs to be a Danica Patrick -- clearly one of the better players of her day of either genders. She'd need to be an attractive enough prospect as a baseball player to convince America's most hidebound sports league to set aside its prejudices. I just don't think a female k-baller is going to get the kind of audience she needs to prove that. Not before a few females with enough talent to play a conventional game of ball at the big league level come first.

I'm not saying I expect it. Heck, I'm not even sure it's possible. But that's what needs to happen.

she drives a freakin car. That has nothing to do with strength.

*sighhhhhh*

I know this. But she's still one of the better players in her sport. And that's the level any potential female MLB player would need to reach.

They wouldn't need to just be good enough to BE MLB players, there's a lot of AAAA men that match that description. They'd need to be good enough to STAND OUT as MLB players.

Are you serious? An average male racer loses anywhere from 5-20 pounds every race. There is some stamina and strength there.

As for The woman thing. Let her into the Minor leagues. What is the worst that happens. She gets rocked and quits. It is not like baseball is like football where a woman might get killed. They had a woman play as a goaltender in the NHL in two preseason games.

I agree with you. But the fossilized baseball brains that have to approve the contract? The ones that have stepped in to block precedent-setting women at least once in the past? You need to convince them, not me..

This has to be one of the dumbest tandems on a site in a LOONG time. I am agreeing with bsox, but he doesnt know it. And Dojji thinks that one day a woman baseball player will come along with mammoth power or the capability to throw 100mph. Did the shortbus let out early today?

I agree with Jacko that the only logical way for a woman to make it to the big leagues is by some unconventional manner (ie knuckle ball) because the likelihood of a woman being able to throw high heat or hit 450 ft bombs is about the same as the likelihood that Jacko and I will agree on something, ie 1 in a million.

While I agree with you Jacko, you aren't clean on this either. It's funny that YOU, of all people, call other posters stupid and unfounded. You are quick to call Dojji and Bsox stupid in the thread for disagreeing while you completely ignore the fact that you are among the site leaders in stupid posts. You might not be the number 1 leader persay, but you're up there.

You're not gonna get a woman in this league if she doesn't have "tools" that would be above average at least for a male player. That's just a fact. They don't have a chance at an "in" without that.

I don't think it'll happen, to be honest about it. Maybe after you find that mythical pioneer, you could have women in the league that rely on "unconventional" skillsets that suit them better. But the first one is going to have to be a Jaqueline Robinson, if you take my meaning, otherwise none of them get in.

Pot calling the kettle black. Sorry, but it had to be said.

According to Wikipedia, Yoshida tops out at 63 mph while her knuckleball is around 50 mph. She would get rocked. I wouldn't even entertain the thought of her playing pro ball. And she actually would be in danger on liners right back at her. Women don't have the same reflexes as men. This has nothing to do with equality and sexism. It has everything to do with ability and reality.

I agree. I only said that IF a woman were to make it in the big leagues, it would have to be through some unconventional method such as a knuckleballer. I never said, or implied, or even remotely hinted, that this particular knuckleballer would make the big leagues. I never said anything about Yoshida being a major league candidate.

What kind of mental gymnastics did you undergo to arrive at that conclusion? I agree to nothing of the kind. That's quite the abstract leap dude, even for you.

I said I agree and referenced a specific part of his post, you know, the part of Keeper's post that I agreed with. Notice how you simply cut out the "I agree" part of my post and the "idiot" part of his post, when there was more to both.

I knew you were stupid and trolling but I never would have imagined that you'd be elementary as well.
