Hulett can play shortstop and im tired of seeing a soft handed weak slap hitting green play at all! I take a hurt lowrie and Hulett anytime over Green.

Then you just like Hulett. Green is better than Hulett at SS, and he's the better, proven hitter too.

Been reading that the cardinals are interested in tejada to play third cause they are not sure if Frese is ready to take that role of everyday third baseman. Tejada's age is unknown but I would guees to say that 3b fits him way better now in his career than ss.

Sox are looking at right handed hitting outfielders such as Xavier Nady. Would this mean they are looking for a platoon mate for Hermida, and include Ellsbury in an Adrian Gonzalez trade?

For the love of God, don't trade Ellsbury!

Yeah, I can definitely go for that -- and Tejada would look at the competition for SS and probably see a chance to win the job outright if Scutaro regresses to the mean. He might go for it.

Proven because he has been given way more ab's. I say give hulett the same ab's and then we will see. Tug made 3 total errors all of last season at all the positions he played at the AAA level and majors(allbeit he did not have a chance to play to many games at the pro level in the field)

Unless St. Louis offers him a starting job, i could see him here.

1) The bolded part proves my points.

2) Errors are not a good way to evaluate a player's defensive ability. Hulett simply lacks the range and arm to play SS.

If we offer him a chance to ply SS, tell him Scutaro or no Scutaro the job could be his if he plays up to it, he might weigh that against starting. Tejada has made it clear in the past that he considers himself a shortstop and doesn't really want to play anywhere else.

It comes down to his priorities I guess.

The problem is i don't see the Sox doing that with 5 million guaranteed to Scutaro.

$5M isn't pocket change, but if it would improve their chances at a position, I think they would try it. It would certainly make Scutaro the league's most expensive utility man though.

That's exactly where i'm coming from.

Arm? are you kidding me and where do you get that from? please provide a scouting report that states his arm is weak. Stats are a better annalysis than your word. How much have you seen him play to prove your statement? which then I revert back to stats. Spring training will prove weather the sox want to give a shot to Hulett or are sattisfied with green. Lowrie according to last year would be their first choice if healthy so this all could be a moot point.

A) The Sox have stated Lowrie will not open the season with the club.

B ) The fact that he's never been given the opportunity to play SS but used at other positions tell me what i need to know.

C) I never talked about Hulett's "arm", i said range and arm, as in, he wouldn't be an acceptable SS, don't put words in my mouth. He was brought up as a second baseman because he has average range.

D) How much have YOU seen Hulett, and where is the comparable sample size of ML AB's that suggest he's anything more than the backup of a backup in the big club?

E) Calm down, leave the passion behind, and see it for what it is, Hulett simply isn't very good.

Im just using stats from his career AAA numbers as proof. I have seen him play a few times at the AAA level. Green is not a bad ball player and I think these two guys should battle it out at spring training for the utility role, but to say that Hulett is not a good player is a little bit rediculous dont u think?

Can the Sox sign Green to a minor league contract?

Is that possible?

It might not be. There's quite a drought of decent SS's out there, someone could well try on Green as utility infielder if we don't, or even as a low-risk gamble as a starter (Baltimore's a real candidate there).

No it isn't.

There's a reason why he's never been given a consistent shot to make a ML backup.

1) His defense at SS and 3B is not that good according to his 3.99 and 2.19 RF/G respectively, the fact that he hasn't been given much of a chance to play SS in the minors over a six year minor league career should tell you something too.

2) He gets on base, but he strikes out a ton, which is not good for a middle infielder who profiles to not have much power in the major leagues.

3) He's shown nothing in the chances he's been given in the Majors, offensively or defensively, even if the sample sizes are small.

4) Speaking of sample sizes, you need to understand that the couple of times you've watched him are simply not a reflection of what should be his actual ability.

Like I said we will see what chance they give him at spring training. Im just ready spring training to get here!! Im headed to Florida in march. anybody else headed down?

Omar Infante? Played 6 positions last year (mostly 2b).

Craig Counsell is also available, and a pretty valuable player to have on a bench.

Nomar is still available, I dont think he has retired.

Jamey Carroll prob the best bet.

I know I will get some heat but I've always like Eric Hinske. Maybe we could bring him back? :dunno:

The problem is that we're talking about an utility IF here, which Eric Hinske is not.

He can play 1st, 3rd (somewhat) and Outfield which would come in handy.

He can't play 2nd or SS, the places where we're really thin. He's also pretty bad at 3B and RF.

What happened to Pedroia and Scutaro?
