  1. It may be only spring training but that is where guys get the opportunity to show they can handle the bat, and play defenses. He has already proven that at the AAA level. Its not just in his actual b.a. that impresses coaches its the ability to square the ball off the bat and play defense. That whole thing "with its only spring training"is wore out, when do you expect guys to show off their skill sets? I have never read a scouting report on tug that says he is a better 3b than second. I have read that his strengths are 2nd and 3rd. Most of your veteran players use the "its only spring training" as an excuse for not being ready or hitting poorly. Look at Ortiz. He hit poorly last season in st and it continued into the first half of the regular season. He has had a mediocre spring so what should we expect in the first half of the season? I hope its not the same!!
  2. Hulett has shown he can handle the bat well this spring and he is more versitle than most of you have been giving him credit for. he adds a left handed bat to the bench along with hermida and can play all over the infield (if needed) and play the outfield in a pinch. He is at third base today against the pirates. Have some friends down at the Fort and they have watched tug in the field and said he has maid some great plays at second as well. What impressed me was they were at the game the other day and said he laid down a sweet bunt for a hit. That shows he is willing to do the little things to get on base. His next at bat he hit a double. Im not saying he needs to be starting but he is proving himself at the plate and the field.
  3. Like I said we will see what chance they give him at spring training. Im just ready spring training to get here!! Im headed to Florida in march. anybody else headed down?
  4. Im just using stats from his career AAA numbers as proof. I have seen him play a few times at the AAA level. Green is not a bad ball player and I think these two guys should battle it out at spring training for the utility role, but to say that Hulett is not a good player is a little bit rediculous dont u think?
  5. Arm? are you kidding me and where do you get that from? please provide a scouting report that states his arm is weak. Stats are a better annalysis than your word. How much have you seen him play to prove your statement? which then I revert back to stats. Spring training will prove weather the sox want to give a shot to Hulett or are sattisfied with green. Lowrie according to last year would be their first choice if healthy so this all could be a moot point.
  6. Proven because he has been given way more ab's. I say give hulett the same ab's and then we will see. Tug made 3 total errors all of last season at all the positions he played at the AAA level and majors(allbeit he did not have a chance to play to many games at the pro level in the field)
  7. Been reading that the cardinals are interested in tejada to play third cause they are not sure if Frese is ready to take that role of everyday third baseman. Tejada's age is unknown but I would guees to say that 3b fits him way better now in his career than ss.
  8. Hulett can play shortstop and im tired of seeing a soft handed weak slap hitting green play at all! I take a hurt lowrie and Hulett anytime over Green.
  9. I say we go with Hulett. I have looked at his last few seasons in AAA and he has raked at times with pretty decent power for a guy of his stature. We should give someone who we have not seen yet a shot. from what I have read on other boards he's a gritty ball player that will give 110% all the time. Read that he was on the USA team that just won the world cup( team made up of AAA and AA players) and hit a homerun in the championship game against Cuba. He also has baseball lineage(SP). His dad Tim Hulett Sr. played 12 seasons in the big leagues and his younger brother Jeff is in the minor leagues with Houston. Some guys just need a shot to play. Im not saying he is going to come in and take anybodys job, but the utility role is ripe for the picking on this team.
  10. my bad. New to the forum so i didnt look far enough.
  11. Obviously this is not super important right now since the team needs to shore up 3b and other issues, but the utility role can be a real important piece of the puzzel. Current who does everyone think has the inside track on the utility role? Lowrie if he is healthy? Green if he is brought back? or Tug Hulett, the newly aquired guy from kc who has not been given much of a chance yet at the pro level? did I forget any body?
  12. I think the aquisition of Hulett is a good trade. He has good aaa numbers and has not been challenged the last two seasons in AAA. Dont let his ba in the majors fool u. He sure hasnt been given much of a consistant chance to play. Not saying he is going to get alot of pt here but I think if given a shot to hit late in games or give pedroia a day off here and there would not hurt at all.
