Another thing in common is that they have often have bad/obnoxious fan bases. Especially with the Lakers and Cowboys.

Lol we Lakers fans are nice people.

You're a Lakers fan? I always knew that you were an a******' date=' but I didn't know that you were also an LA fan. ;)[/quote']

I've an interesting mix:

Sox, Lakers, Pats.

They did execute better than Baylor down the stretch' date=' but with that being said there were some bad calls that I saw in the last five minutes of this game when it was still close and who knows what would have happened if they went the other way. (i.e. thomas dunk should have been offensive interference). Always easy to second guess the refs, but just what I saw.[/quote']

There are always little questionable calls down the stretch in every single basketball game. I could go back and comb through the last five or ten minutes and I'm positive I could find some close calls that went to Baylor. They're inevitable, unless the officials are on the take.

As for the Thomas dunk, I don't know the exact rule. Do you know the exact wording of it?

I think this attitude is pretty foolish. Every team that has a large fan base has all different kinds of fans. A winning team draws in all sorts of fans, to the point where you cannot generalize.

Agreed, the officiating is so different from game to game. You almost need to scout the officials more than the opposing team.

Not the exact wording but it basically says if you grab and are holding the rim before the ball goes through that should be offensive interference, and from what I saw, Thomas touched the rim before the ball went through. Of course the crazy phantom foul on that play was just the cherry on top.

Bulls***. When you think about the most obnoxious fanbases, you generally think about the bandwagoning large fanbases. Nobody thinks of the Royals or Jaguars or Mississippi State when you think of bad/obnoxious fans. It's the big market teams that win a lot that have the most notable obnoxious/ignorant fans, like the Lakers, Cowboys, Duke, and I'd throw the Sox and Yankees in there as well. I know for a fact that when people are polled for the worst NBA and NFL fanbases that the Lakers and Cowboys would finish very highly on both.

There are going to be fans of any team that consistently wins that are going to be obnoxious.

1) Those fans don't necessarily represent the entire fan base, so I don't think it's appropriate to generalize.

2) Because they're all like that, I don't really find that to be a legitimate reason to hate a team, but to each their own.

All very true, however, assuming that every team has the same % of jacka** fans, then the biggest market teams will have the highest number of douchebag fans. Then add the fact that the bigger market teams that win a lot will have worse fans because fans are always more obnoxious when their teams win, and you're left with teams like the Yankees/Red Sox, Lakers, Cowboys etc that are the most hated fanbases in sports. Just as I had said.

Thomas was touching the rim because he was attempting a put back dunk. He muffed it a bit and the ball hit the back of the rim. Fortunately, for him and Duke, it went straight up and down through the cylinder. You see this regularly. I've never seen a ref call a player for touching the rim on his own dunk attempt.

I also thought the foul call may have been a gift from the original camera angle. However, CBS showed the top of the backboard looking down view during the broadast. It was a brief replay from that angle, but you could clearly see Udoh all over Thomas' arm during the put back attempt. It was the right call.

Thomas' dunk was definitely not even close to offensive interference (coming from someone who had a large stake on Baylor winning that game). I thought it was at first but all replays showed definitively that the ball never was interfered with, he just tried to slam it hard, and fumbled it a bit, and it rattled off the front and back rims because he was trying to slam it way harder than he needed to.

Couple of big "ifs" here, but here goes....

I'm a Duke fan, and if Butler can hold on, and if Duke beats WVU, you know, this whole idea of Butler winning it all is so appealing I might actually root against my team.

While I liked Michigan State, I'm glad that Butler won. I feel vindicated for Michigan State taking Uconn's spot in the finals last year. That said, I really need WVU to beat Duke. I had WVU in the finals in my bracket and I just really hate Duke.

Take notes Calipari. It almost always works' date=' yet some coaches never do it.[/quote']

To be honest, that's the first time I've ever seen someone purposely foul when up 3. In all of the NBA and College games that I've seen, I have never seen that, but it's absolutely the right call.

It happens, although not that often. As you said, it's absolutely the right call.

EDIT: It was the first question Cal was asked after the 2008 Championship Game.

How big of a Duke fan are you? Did you go to school there, or just generally root for them as a second team or something? I know I wouldn't give a damn about the feel good Butler story if Mississippi State was involved. I would root 100% for my team and not feel bad for one second.

But wow, that was a clinic by Duke tonight. Their most complete game of the tournament by far.

Duke looked absolutely spectacular. Scheyer is just such a great floor general, and when Singler and Smith play like that, they're so tough to beat.

On Monday I think we'll see a bit of a different approach from Duke, with more focus on the interior against Butler. With that being said, I've been dead wrong on Butler twice this tournament, but I'd be extremely surprised if they won. Duke is just clicking on all cylinders right now, to the point where they haven't been tested into the final minute of any game they've played in this tournament.

Duke dominated. Good to see a local kid like Scheyer play well in the spotlight. People around here were down on him for not going to U of I. I'd say he picked the right school.

I'm not a Duke fan, but Scheyer is probably my favorite player in the country. Since his move to PG, he is just always in complete command of the floor. He dictates the pace of the game beautifully, and he never seems rushed, making good decision after good decision.

He's hardly the best player in college basketball, but he has been a lot of fun to watch this year.
