...I was just going to get on here and ask you and itallstallianion if you thought that needed to happen.

This would probably be the most logical time for him to walk away peacefully, but I'd rather have Calhoun here. It depends on what other coaches are available at the time.

Only if he's not healthy.

I met the guy when he was recruiting my teammate in H.S..

He was pretty cool. Which is why he can recruit.

I don't know dude. Mississippi State has been one of those "last 4 in"/"first 4 out" for a while. Granted, they have helped themselves by winning games, and have been helped by teams ahead of them losing games. The problem is that with each upset in conference tournament play, there becomes one less at large seed available. For example, with Houston winning the Conference USA title, they get an automatic bid which would have belonged to UTEP, and UTEP takes an at-large bid away from a bubble team. You just have to root against other bubble teams such as Georgia Tech vs. Duke, and Minnesota vs. Ohio State. You have a shot, but your destiny is more than within your own hands. Unless you beat Kentucky that is.

Here's what is probably going to happen: State loses to Kentucky, barely gets left out.

23-10, winning your division, and making it to the SECT finals shouldn't get you in? C'mon... I know the SEC isn't a top flight conference, but still.

I'm livid at all these MF upsets that keep happening. Illinois is in, Minnesota is in, GT is probably in, Houston secured their bid today, etc. Here's what I don't get. How the hell is Florida in (according to Joe Lunardi) when we just beat those chumps the night before? Plus, we have a better record than them as well. One non-con win against Michigan State shouldn't be the difference here. Ridiculous.

You're preaching to the choir, but I'm extremely biased because I hate the University of Florida. Anyway, the SEC West isn't a very strong division, and the SEC tournament is especially flawed when it puts teams like Ole Miss and Mississippi State in the next round while making better teams in the Eastern Division (ie Tennessee) play in the first round. The SEC should be like the other conferences and simply have the best 4 teams getting the first round bye.

I'm not saying that MSU would have lost had they played another game, but they got the benefit of a flawed system. I personally think you guys will be in the tournament, but with each non top team winning a conference tournament, it hurts your chances.

It would be nice if we could just beat Kentucky and not have to worry about it, but I'm not getting my hopes up. I disagree with it 100%, but I fully expect us to get left out. One thing is for sure, I desperately hope we can get a fair shake tomorrow officiating wise. We all know what happened last month when we played Kentucky for the first time.

I really hope MSU gets in the NCAAT.

I'm suprised that Joe had Florida in too.

Good luck tomorrow.

Mississippi State has an RPI of .5687 which is good for 63rd. To give some perspective, Uconn is 66th at .5667. What hurts Mississippi State is that their strength of schedule is only .5312, which is good for 104th. For reference, Uconn has the 4th highest strength of schedule with .5992.

So even though Mississippi State has a good enough record to make the tournament, their schedule and conference record aren't impressive enough to convincingly put them in. I think they will get in, but because other teams lost it rather than because of MSU's own merits.

That said, I'm hoping that the Spurs draft Jarvis Varnado in this year's draft.

Just saw an updated version of Lunardi's last four in/first four out and Mississippi State is currently the last team in, with Florida being the first team out.

Freaking Washington just won the Pac 10 tournament. Whyyyyy.

By the way, the MAC championship is tied at 75 on ESPN2 right now.

I think if you can keep it close the whole game tomorrow, you'll get in.

We have been hurt by a weak SEC this year. We also played at UCLA (and hammered them) which is normally a top tier team. Our win over Old Dominion is looking really good right now too. With that said, I think we deserve a lot of credit for pulling off two tough wins against Florida and Vanderbilt, especially Vandy as it was basically on their home court with the game in Nashville.

Why would he go so late?

He is still pretty skinny and needs to bulk up for the next level. That, and develop a better jumpshot. Still, he is a defensive force and someone will grab him based on his D alone.

Posted

Draft Express has him going 36th to the Pacers, early second round is where a player of his caliber should be going.

He's small for an NBA power forward, he doesn't have the size and frame to bang down low, he doesn't have the jumpshot to be a versatile inside/outside threat (think Glen Davis), but he does have nice hands around the basket from what I've seen. His best asset is his defense, he's long and has great timing, but I feel like he's not going to be able to be a great defender down low on the next level playing man on man, but like I said with his length and timing he could prove to be a great weak side help defender.

He's a back end of the rotation player, probably will end up being an 8th to 10th guy on a good team.

Just... Really, there are no words. Everything that could've possibly gone wrong with bid stealers this week has. New Mexico State just upset Utah State. I'm so bummed.

I know we're still alive, but beating Kentucky is probably too much to ask. The NCAA can pre-DIAF due to how they're going to screw us over tomorrow.

Posted

We aren't going anywhere. The NCAA is keeping us at home and that's ********. Absolute ********.

Doug Gottlieb was just on ESPN talking about John Wall's lane violation and how Mississippi State was robbed by the officials for the second time this season against Kentucky.

What do you really expect though? I've sadly grown accustomed to being screwed out of wins in the SEC year in and year out. The officiating wasn't nearly as bad as last game, but they missed some critical calls. How about Jarvis Varnado being literally THROWN/DRAGGED TO THE GROUND IN FRONT OF THE OFFICIAL and no call? I... don't even know what to say. Great game but a s***** ending, albeit a typical one.

I really wouldn't be surprised if Miss St makes it, though the chances are low. Florida is for sure done, and Utah State could be bumped if the selection committee likes Miss St enough. They played a fantastic game and are a solid team.

Zach, we aren't in good with the NCAA. Never have been, never will be. As a Mississippi State fan you always assume the worst when it comes to dealing with the NCAA. Today is no different. It doesn't take a genius to tell that we have a very solid basketball team. A non-sports fan could've watched the games this weekend and known that. You have to be kidding me that teams like Virginia Tech, Utah State, and Illinois are going to likely get in ahead of us. It's unbelievable. I haven't been this pissed about something sports related in ages.

State turned the ball over too much and didn't rebound when it was needed.

Makes it a little tougher to rebound when John Wall is committing a lane violation and it's not called.

So typical.
