I liked Matsui more than Damon because he was more consistent, and could hit lefties more. Plus, the money and the length of the deal would be about half for Damon. Considering how well Damon plays the outfield, I think Matsui is the better value, or at least was. Is Damon's pathetic ability to play the OF worth an extra year and 12 extra million? With the Sox getting Lackey, they still have all the tools to make a MAJOR deal. AG or Hanley may be on the radar. Any way you look at it, we've taken a step back. We've gotten older as a team, and replaced Matsui's and Damon's production with Granderson.

So far, here are the additions:

Granderson

Hoffman

Here are the losses:

Matsui

Damon

Wang

Coke

A. Jackson

I. Kennedy

That's a trade I would NOT make.

I know the Yankees aren't done...but as of now, we're not looking too good compared to the Sox. They've added Hermidia, Cameron, Scutaro and Lackey for Bay and Brian Anderson. They're about to pull the trigger on Beltre for Lowell. The Sox have gained about 6-8 games, I'd say, and the Yankees have lost about 5 so far. I think we're pretty much dead even, and the Sox may be even better.

you need to take an ativan. We havent finished our offseason yet. I bet we add an OFer at the very least.

Pierre is exactly the kind of player Guillen wants. Imagine the futile power out of the top two in that order. Pierre and Pods. Wow.

It would have been way cheaper just trading for Gardner.

Pierre is overpaid but he does not suck

He's not as good as he's been, and the player with his set of skills traditionally doesn't age very well.

Yeah, he is, but they put up similar numbers. Juan Pierre is better than Podsednik, yes, because he's a consistent .300/.350/.370 guy. However, Podsednik just plain old sucks. He used to be able to give you decent ability to get on base, and he could steal bases like crazy. Now, he's lost his base-stealing edge, and has struggled to get on base up until this year. Although, this year, he was better than Pierre.

Pirates signed LHP Javier Lopez to a one-year split contract.

Lopez spent only 11 2/3 innings in the majors last season, issuing nine walks against just five strikeouts for the Red Sox. He had a 3.18 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 39 2/3 innings at Triple-A Pawtucket.

Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News has heard that the Cubs are "close to getting a deal done" with free agent outfielder Marlon Byrd.

The Cubs saved $6 million when they shipped Milton Bradley to Seattle and now have a vacancy in their outfield. Byrd, 32, batted .283/.329/.479 with 20 homers, 89 RBI and 43 doubles in '09. If he does sign with Chicago, he will be reunited with his former hitting coach, Rudy Jaramillo.

Marlon Byrd is perfect for Wrigley Field

Oakland is closing on a one year, $5 million deal with OF Coco Crisp, ESPN's Buster Olney reports.

A little curious that the Athletics elected to go Crisp over Jack Cust when Cust would have cost about $4 million through the arbitration process. Crisp should provide fantastic defense, but his contribution on offense is anyone's guess. The 30-year old batted .228/.336/.378 in 180 at-bats for Kansas City in 2009 before undergoing surgery in both shoulders.

You need to learn to read. I said we weren't done yet, but as of now, we don't look as good as last year. Of course, this post was made before we picked up Johnson, but we're not as good as last year's team.

By the way...weren't you the one advocating how Wang was an ACE pitcher? Once Cashman cuts him, he's garbage?

Darren Oliver signs with the Texas Rangers

Id say at this point, Seattle ia definitely the favorite to win the AL West. The Angels havent gotten much done, except for adding Hideki Matsui and locking Abreu up for 2 years. They have lost Chone Figgins (Mariners), John Lackey (Red Sox), Darren Oliver (Rangers) and also lost Jose Arredondo to Tommy John Surgery. And wasnt able to jump in the Cliff Lee/Roy Halladay talks

Sorta depends on what Brandon Wood does. He hits, it's all moot. Even if not, they put Izturis at third, and lose a lot of speed, but probably gain a bit of SLG. Even if not, that's not that big of an offensive dropoff really. the real question is if they can throw a rotation together that's worth spit. Their defense is fairly good, especially up the middle, so that task might be easier than it looks.

You dont get it? Even if not, everyone else does. Even if not, at least he knows what he's talking about. Even if not, it's only dojji's random thoughts about the angels so it doesnt matter THAT much

Solid move by the Nats

What a steal for Toronto. Morrow has more potential than League

Yeah definitely. But we still need to see who the prospect is. Probably find out tomorrow.

Marquis will be effective in that vast stadium, hes good enuff for 15 wins in that league.

Is the savior coming up this year or do they have him on a pitch count in some foreign land while seeing if he can handle the AAA kids 1st? Strasbourg will bring the fans out at least.
