There have been multiple teams that came from 3-1 down to win the World Series.

And the Yankees have never lost a series being up 3-1... excluding 2004.

I realize that. I was simply responding to the comment that no team has ever blown this kind of lead in a World Series.

Interesting note...

In all six series prior to the World Series, the closer of the losing team blew a save, while the closer of the winning team did not.

Ryan Franklin in game two of the NLDS

Joe Nathan in game two of the ALDS

Jonathan Papelbon in game three of the ALDS

Huston Street in game four of the NLDS

Brian Fuentes in game two of the ALCS

Jonathan Broxton in game four of the NLCS

Brad Lidge did not pick up a blown save last night, but, when it comes down to it, he did cost his team the game. It's certainly an interesting trend.

Also, in a way, it's almost extraordinary that they won last night's game, when you consider the fact that they only hit three balls well over the course of the entire game.

But they worked the count and stuck to their plan.

It's not surprising to me.

The bloop and dribbler offense, practiced by the unjuiced players.

Then there's the line drive to the wall offense, practiced by the admitted juicers.

The Phillies have the edge in the next 2 pitching matchup .

I could see this going 7 games

Lee over Burnett, sure.

But what edge does Pedro have over Pettitte playing in Yankee stadium?

Pettitte's 17 postseason wins is the most postseason wins in the history of Major League Baseball.

He also has the most wins to clinch a series in postseason history.

Pettitte pitched fairly poorly last time out against the Phils, and with that said, and the fact that Lee completely dominated the Yanks last time out, I could see this going 7 games for sure.

Pettitte currently has 9 post season losses.

I wonder what pitcher holds that record.

Record for losses? That would be Tom Glavine with 16 postseason losses

Just found the section on baseball-reference with those records. Lots of Yanks and Braves on the longevity stats lists.

I give Pedro the edge because Andy's pitching on 3 days rest, something that he does not do very well. I think the fact that all of our starters the rest of the way are going on 3 days rest is being very downplayed, and is an advantage to the Phillies. Hopefully it doesn't prove to be too big an issue and we can wrap this up relatively soon.

Any of those teams spend 480 Million dollars in the off season? Or have as high of expectations as this club?

If this Yankee club loses this series, it will easily be the biggest WS choke ever. And it's not even debatable IMO.

lol

I think the distinction of biggest World Series chokers will forever belong to the 1986 Boston Red Sox.

Just my opinion

Oh and if anyone hasn't heard, Melky is probably out for the remainder of the series, and they are petitioning to replace him on the roster with either Freddy Guzman, Ramiro Pena, or Francisco Cervelli.

With Burnett, Molina and Gardner in there tonight, and with the absence of Posada and matsui, this is easily the worst lineup we've put out there all postseason.

If anyone didn't know this is a must win for the phils.

Thank you for the inside information, my good sir.

Probably right now it is. If the Yankees lose, then they can have the title for awhile ;)

They already decided to put Pena on the roster.

It makes sense to put out the lesser lineup when facing the Phillie's ace, Cliff Lee.

Having Sabathia, Posada, and Melky over them didn't make a difference in Game 1

I don't know how the 86 Sox could be the biggest WS Choke when the 68 Cards blew a 3 - 1 lead in games. I don't think they were the only team to blow a 3 to 1 lead. The 86 Sox were the underdog in that WS and they didn't have a 3-1 lead in games. The Mets were big favorites and the vastly superior team. It's hard to be accused of choking when you are the underdog and the inferior team. The Yanks were more than 2 to 1 favorites at the beginning of this Series.
