How many times must I say it?

The Bruins should not have signed Thomas to a $5 million cap hit for any length of contract, never mind four seasons.

Can't wait til they let Wheeler walk because he's got too much skill and isn't enough of a "big bad Bruin"

So you don't give Timmy, A VEZINA TROPHY WINNING GOALTENDER, a 5 million dollar cap hit, even for 2 or 3 years?? that's ludicrous. he has the 12th highest cap hit, which is essentially middle of the pack. I don't know how much money you think he's worth but I think 5 million is perfectly fine. Interesting players in front of him as well. Backstrom has not done anything in the playoffs. Vokoun has not done anything in the playoffs. Huet has not done anything in the playoffs and Thomas has a Vezina which the others don't. Lundqvist and Luongo have won a grand total of 2 playoff series each. Kiprusoff hasn't won a playoff series in 5 years, so there are plenty of goaltenders getting paid a lot more than him with similar playoff resumes than Thomas has. I have said before 4 years is a terrible idea, no question about it. But as far as Thomas getting paid more than he is worth and therefore taking away cap space which we'd sign Kessel, that is where you are wrong.

^^^Would you have taken Tim Thomas or Craig Anderson/Phil Kessel?

What has Craig Anderson ever done besides this 20 game stretch??? The Bruins, with serious Stanley Cup aspirations going into this year were not going to go into the year with Craig Anderson and Tuukka Rask in net, would not have been plausible. Kessel did not want to be here/Bruins did not want to pay him the money he knew he would get from Toronto. Signing Thomas had nothing to do with whether Kessel came back...

Besides having a .928 save percentage and 7 shutouts in 70 games over the last 4 seasons?

Kessel did not want to be here

Make no mistake, Kessel wanted to be anywhere he would get paid.

70 games over 4 seasons. That means he has never been able to handle a full load of games over a complete season. The Bruins were never going to give Kessel the bloated contract that Toronto gave him. The Bruins did not think he was worth being one of their top 3 or 4 players, when he has only demonstrated play in 1 zone, while the Bruins prefer developed 3 zone players. Meanwhile everyone and their mother knew Toronto was hot after Kessel and would pay a ransom in both picks and dollars to get him. So obviously Kessel was going to a place where he was clearly wanted no matter what the price, compared to Boston where he was only wanted at a certain dollar figure. (something probably less than what Krejci got, since the B's valued Krejci more than Kessel.) So he held out and forced the Bruins to trade him. Is Kessel worth 2 first round picks? Absolutely not, but that's what the Bruins got and it will be of tremendous value towards the future.

He's never been given the opportunity....hence the reason his cap hit is only $1.8 million for the next two years. I'm not comparing him to Thomas, I'd take Thomas over Anderson all things being equal but a 28-year old Anderson gives better value at $1.8 mil than a 35-year old Thomas does at $5 mil

It is not ludicrous, especially since the Bruins were up against the cap as it was. Name me a goaltender who signs a multi-year deal at age 35 and lives up to the entire length of a contract. Domenik Hasek? Not quite sure what you're expecting out of Thomas for the duration of the contract, and since this contract comes with a deadly $5 million hit for four seasons, I'm not sure how it is justified.

Signing him for a 2 year deal would have been palatable. But you cannot tell me that four years is justifiable.

Please present a list with these numbers.

Maybe it's not signing Kessel, maybe it's re-signing Savard. Or Chara. Or Wheeler.

All I know, is the Bruins overpaid for Thomas, and lost out on Kessel because they could not afford him.

The same criticisms about Anderson not being able to handle a full season of work could have been said about Thomas before last season...before Thomas had a world-class defense in front of him.

Huet's deal wa san abomination. If you want to look at that deal and say Thomas's doesn't look bad in comparison, then more power to you.

As for Luongo, Lundqvist, etc....all have better or comparable numbers to Thomas or have won Cups, and those guys didn't sign a multi year deal at 35.

Not a good offensive team. So much for replacing 36 goals with a healthy season of Marco Sturm and Mark Recchi.

Phil Kessel wouldnt have hurt them out there last night.

65 shutout minutes along with a scoreless shoot out against the sisters of the poor in Miami is a f***ing disgrace. I understood that Kessel had been a pain in the ass since they drafted him and the Leafs maybe the worst team in the league this year which would give the Bs a shot at a stud...But what about this year? They had serious plans for this year but based on what we've seen so far they lack the punch on offense thats needed when they step up against the better teams.. Last night was a horror show, perhaps the most impudent performance offensively that Ive seen this club ever play.

Its early November so nobody should be headed for the Zakim bridge just yet and they have had some injury issues but these guys arent producing at all and its reflective on their record..Tim Thomas stood on his head last night and had a great year last season but in the playoffs against Carolina he was awful.Im not sure if he was worn down or if he simply had the jitters but we'll need better play than that in net come spring time if we have any serious ambitions, if Carolina could starch him like that whats DC Pitt and Jersey going to do against him??

Kessel's departure, I think, was reflective of the front office's belief that the Bruins overachieved last year and weren't likely to be a Cup finalist this year either...I'm of the mind that they're looking a few years down the road.

The way this team is playing, Kessel being in the mix wouldn't make all that much difference I don't think, although the Savard and Lucic injuries clearly sapped that B's offensive depth and perhaps. With them playing, Krejci, Ryder, Sturm et al might find more favorable matchups which they can exploit.

Can the Bruins just get some damn momentum for when Savard returns? Lucic is back so lets go. Raask was shaky but got the job done last night. Beregon's move in the SO was one of the best I've seen all year.

Bruins win in a shootout and finish the trip 4/4 with the max 8 points achieved. Rask has been amazing. All the guys are back, hope Lucic's leg is ok. Hell Tim Thomas could be the backup by the end of this year the way Rask has been playing. Thanks for giving him that terrible deal. Trade his ass while you can
