They definitely played well in spurts but too many stupid penalties and mistakes.

They pretty much dominated from the start of the 2nd, Thomas's s***** goal notwithstanding.

I liked what I saw from him. Looked quick and wasn't afraid of contact unlike someone we just traded away.

 

Thomas played well tonight. He gave up a irritating goal but Bergy didn't do him any favors on that one.

Considering they were trying to adjust to the loss, in rapid succession, of three of their top 12 forwards, and trying to integrate the guys they brought in to replace them in a hurry? Yeah, I think the y did well.

Considering the circumstances, I guess they played well, but they've got a ways to go before they even look like a shell of last years team.

I've been preaching how mediocre/bad Morris' defense has been this year, and he backed me up big time tonight.

so far this year what hes brought every game is generally meaningless unless you play center for the other guys..6 weeks for a broken finger?It must require some intricate surgery.

Just frequented my first game of the year.

 

Tuukka was awesome, bringing his GAA down to 2.40ish if my math is right?

Can we all agree the problem with this team is not the goaltending? Both of the goalies have played superb thus far and are both playing what would be akin to a number 1 goalie. The defensive structure has been very good over the last week. When you allow 3 goals in 3 games, and have a 1-2 record to show for it, it is clear that people are just not putting the puck in the net. Bergeron and Krejci have been the 2 best forwards on this team thus far, but their wingers have failed to be able to put the puck in the net. I am pointing at you, Recchi, Sturm, Ryder. And don't get me started on the PP. This team clearly misses Savard right now and they need another scorer or 2 who can put the puck in the net. I know they'll probably pick one up at the deadline but I don't know if the team can survive until the deadline when they can't score..

And Ryder's probably been the 3rd best offensive player behind Bergeron and Krecji. Recchi and Sturm have been invisible and Wheeler inconsistent.

 

Hopefully Sobotka and Marchand continue to play well.

I've been trying to convince Stocker all season long about how subpar Thomas has been, especially considering the contract we gave him. It's a lost cause.

I also think it was a stupid idea not to start Rask today. The guy was coming off a shut out, we need to find out what he's got sooner or later, why not see if the kid can get hot?

The frustrating thing is that we dominated this game even strength. The first goal in the Devils game he should have stopped but he didn't have much of a chance on the 2nd one after it hit a bunch of bodies. We let up 1 goal today which I don't think Timmy had much of a chance on because of a miscommunication in the defense.

 

In an unrelated note, what do you think of Morris so far. I thought the goal today was partially his fault, but this season I think he's been our best overall defenseman, while YH says he's been the worst. your thoughts?

Ottawa he singlehandedly won us that game. Nashville I thought he was the difference maker in the 3rd. He's let in 3 goals the last 2 games. A 1.50 GAA, and we're complaining about the goaltender?????

The length of the contract is bad yes. I expect him to be a starting goalie, either here or elsewhere, until the last year of that contract.

I think Morris has probably been their best or 2nd best defenseman....the guy who I am continuously impressed with, and whose game is really maturing, is Mark Stuart. Really think he's come into his own quite nicely. Wideman, Hunwick, and Ference have been atrocious this season, however, which could also explain a lot of the shortcomings that both goaltenders have had to this point.

I agree completely with you on the dmen. Wideman will have 1 really good period and then the next period he'll look completely lost. Hunwick has shown glimpses of what he can do, and has had solid breakout passes at times. Ference needs to be taken off the PP though and put Hunwick on there whether he "deserves it or not". IMO, Boychuk should be in the lineup over Ference or Hunwick. But the defense has really put the clamps down on teams the last couple games so I'm sure they'll stay the same. Chara played his best game of the season on Saturday, and has been stellar since Claude lit a spark under him.
